Beams scales vs automatic powder dispencers

Beams scales vs automatic powder dispencers. Hi i am just wanting peoples ideas on what works better. Pros and cons that are not so obvious (Not speed) haha. Brands people are running. If you are running beam scales, what tools are you using in conjunction with the beam scales. cheers Tim

[QUOTE=Tim Dicko;868377]Beams scales vs automatic powder dispencers...............ideas on what works better.......what tools are you using in conjunction with the beam scales......../QUOTE]

Just puchased a Lee beam scale because of the never ending WARNING WARNING WARNIGNS on the dispensers NOT TO BE USED FOR BLACK POWDER...........which is what I want to measure.

Being of a doubting nature, I also have a set of 17pcs Digital Scale Calibration Weights .US$8.47 free delivery from AliExpress to reassure me......

I'm looking for one of the old fashioned glass / metal sugar dispensers as the powder container / pourer. I think i saw one at the equivalent of the $1 shop

    Why not both in one?

Not sure whose post you are replying to.

If mine, it has the usual DO NOT USE FOR BLACK POWDER. it's ONLY a trickler so it requires a beam scale and "is not suitable for use with the Lee safety scale, RCBS 304 or RC130 scales."

I going to beam scale's after trying digital. I got sick of drifting digital's not being able to trickle on the scale etc.
Powder thrower trickler and Beam's for me form now on.
The digital scale is a Lyman 1500 and is utter poo, between this and my Ezy Prime mentioned in another post I'm not very happy with Lyman right now.
I've just brought a new RCBS M500 and have a Hornady powder already

Beam scale, installed at eye height. Make sure it is level and balanced.

Combine it with powder scoops and an electronic trickler, and you will be smiling

Good beam scales have an efficient magnetic damping system which means they settle quickly. I use lee scoops that get me to within a few grains and trickle the rest

I wonder how much did it cost to send the scale away ect. Everything is made in china. surley they are not built to fail though. How long did it take yours to fail?
I got the chargemaster 8 or 9 years ago. Can't remember what it cost to send the beam scales to Scott parker, He was selling the redding ones tuned ready to go. https://en-gb.facebook.com/Single-Ke...70185688/about His tuned scales do not waiver charge to charge. i had an old set of 5-0-5 rcbs scales they were all over the show charge to charge. he would not look at them they have twin poises and apparently are very hard to tune. I see he now has a very long turnaround time, if you send him scales as opposed to buying new, tuned from him.

So does that mean a powder thrower isnt nessisary? Are the lee powder scoops quite good?

You can get the charges quite consistent with the lee scoops. You are meant to have the power in a wide mouth bowl, you dunk the scoop and let the powder flow into it in a consistent manner and lift it straight up. You don't "scoop it up" as that may cause compression of the powder. Then the contents are levelled in a consistent way e.g. with a credit card edge, scooped at same angle the same way each time. Plenty youtube videos.

Scooping in this manner is as accurate as any powder thrower - just not adjustable in as fine increments.

About thirty odd years ago my first reloading kit was a Lee and i had to use a mallet to resize, seat primer and projectile.

Powder handling was a little yellow scoop level the propellant with the edge of the scoop no scales or trickler job done, using Lee powder instructions.

I had some of the most accurate ammo I had for my Mod 700 Remington .243.

I think I used 85 gr GameKings, still use them.

If you sit at a normal height table, only need to raise them about 20cm.

If you pre-load with a scoop, the beam scales are pretty quick.
