W748 is fine in a .308 with med weight bullets but it's not temp-stable like 2208. It can produce high velocities- 3000 fps with 150s in a 30"bbl. Fullbore shooters tried it decades ago but it never performed well at long range, not that it would worry most deershooters.
The Winchester ball powder that Belmont sells under their own label is actually 747, the bulk commercial brother to 748 but slightly faster in burning rate.
Belmont Action Rifle is 747 but Belmont 748 is Win748 repackaged from bulk.
