Thread: Belmont 748 powder

2208 is the to to powder for 308 and if your already using it why change as 748 burns real dirty. It's also not as good in 308 as the 2208. It's slightly cheaper to buy and goes well through a thrower but unless your reloading massive volumes for say service rifle use I wouldn't change.

I do live using 748 in the ar though (apart from it being a dirty powder)

My experience with .308 is the faster burning AR2206H gives better velocity and equal consistency to AR2208 with 125-150gr bullets, especially in 20" or shorter barrels . I find that AR2008 is great with 165gr .308 and 150gr in 22" and longer barrels.

W748 is definitely a dirty powder. It also seems to give more consistency day to day by loading it with magnum primers which can raise the pressure so usual reloading safety procedures to apply.

Thanks for the heads up, they are out of stock of the 748 so ordered more 2208 and save the hassel and development
