    Belmont Powders

Has anyone tried Belmont's powders? Am going to order a heap of the 748 for my AR but want to give the WAP action pistol powder a shot in my Czechmate, just seeing if anyone has any experience with it in 9mm

Was in at Belmont the other day and picked up a can of their Action Rifle which is actually St Marks (General Dynamics) WC747, a powder not normally availbale for civilian use. I had a wee bit a couple of years ago, scored off a mate. An excellent powder. The 748 should be perfect, as it obviously is WC748. The Action Pistol I have no idea what it is like, or of its origin. If it is a ball powder also it is most likely also a St Marks powder, although they only show ball powder made by them for 45ACP.. Belmont price their powders reasonably well. There is some information on their powders here www.dtic.mil>ndia>faintich
Hodgdon now market Winchester Powders so not sure where Belmont sit with them.

I'm using Belmont action Pistol in my CZ Shadow.

5.2grs AP, 124gr Berrys plated projectile

Power factor is a shade under 130.

    Accuracy is spot on.

And you end up with a very clean pistol after a session at the range.

    Cheers
    Pete

Will it make major powerfactor safely in your czechmate though? Would be interested to know how full the case is at 5.2gr for 130pf.

    @Towely

9x19mm wont make Major Power Factor .... Safely.

My CZ SPO1 Shadow clocked the following with Belmont Action Pistol and 124gr berry's projectiles

5.2gr Action Pistol averaged 1042fps for 129 power factor

5.4gr Action Pistol averaged 1062fps for 131 power factor

5.0 gr Action Pistol averaged 982fps for 122 power factor

I settled on 5.2gr Action Pistol

5.2gr Action Pistol fills the case about half way.

    Cheers
    Pete

That Belmont powder must be really fine because I use 5.2 grns of N320 or AP50 and 70 in my .40's and that is 3/4 full.

9 major is a very common choice for open guns. If you know what youre doing it can be loaded "safely". I must have a looser meaning for the term "safely" than some people have, although if anyone wants to be pedantic about it then reloading anything can be a recipe for disaster and is potentialy unsafe.

Loading 9x19 to major pf is not for the faint hearted and/or inexperienced as it could rapidly end in tears when that hammer drops in more ways than one.

I'm really just a weekend plinker at best, running a standard gun so have no need to push my gear to the limits.

Minor PF in my 9mm suits me just fine.

    Cheers

I shot some Major loads from another club member on the weekend, while the Czechmate soaked up the punishment, as it's designed to, it still felt brutal and it felt like the grips were rattling on each shot. I'm happy shooting a hot minor for 99% of my matches and bring out major if i ever need that extra competitiveness. I hear Major power factor is being reduced 5-10% shortly so I'll happily take that, and maybe continue to play with some heavier cast projectiles

I use the Action Rifle which is 3% faster than WW748.

It shoots exceptionally well in my BCM AR15. 26.3gr, SRMag Primer, 55gr Hdy Bulk SP. 14mm groups at 100m, drops wallabies and fallow like lightning.
