Anyone tried Action Rifle powder in the Grendel?? If its similar to 8208 then it might be ok

This is an old thread but I will add my thoughts on this powder.
Everything I have read also supports that it’s the same as / is PowerPro 2000-MR.

Using load data from Alliant on line data, it’s spot on for 308 loads with 155 and 175gn projectiles I have used so far.

I have just been working up a load using it in a Savage Stealth Evolution in 308 with a 20” barrel.
Running 155gn HBC projectiles I am getting 2930 fps with no pressure signs and good accuracy.
Will try running these at 1000 yards in the weekend and see how they go.
FYI, these were loaded over mag length so are single load only which helps getting the velocity obtained.

Running 175gn Sierra’s at mag length I am getting 2730fps but this needs more tuning yet.
I am picking 2800fps will be possible at safe pressures.

It’s cheap, meters really well and gives great velocity and accuracy.
Looking forward to burning a whole lot more of it.

I am on about my 3rd tin of this now, giving good accuracy with a mild target load, that is probably doing 2750 ish and shows to be about 200 fps slower than a full 1000 yd target load. I deem it great for practice and doing the "shorts" ( out to 600 yds ) One day I will get it properly chronographed and do some load developement, but for now with minimal effort it hits stuff.

Anyone use this in 6.5cm?

Rookie question but it says on their website the 763 is good for 155-175gn. What would be the problem putting lighter projectiles in? I’m having good accuracy with the TTSX 130s with 47gn 2208 but am looking at trying to support Belmont more after finding out they are a NZ brand.

Not yet but from what I have read, it provides useful velocity for light projectiles (120gn and below) in the creedmoor.

If it is indeed the "same" as PP 2000-MR then its a bit slow for 130's in the 308 and GRT predicts your'll only be burning about 85% of the powder - won't cause any problems just a great big muzzle flash!

That said, would their 748 powder be the go for 130s in the 308? Also if anyone has had any experience with the 748 your thoughts would be much appreciated!

748 would be more suitable, but still with 5% or more unburnt - thats not uncommon though!

Hmmmm - Was playing about with some scenarios for a 223 with a 24" barrel and 80 Gn sierras today. Based on @Beavis thoughts above I modeled PP 2000 MR for 80 Gn's in GRT and it (the PP 2000) is "ideal" , 26.0 grains would be lust slightly compreessed, which p[owders of theis type "usually like" and giving 2900 fps - pretty good for a 223 with 80 gns and a 24" barrel

@Tentman - what overall length are you playing with for the 80s?

I have been having a go with this powder behind the 75 grain Gold Dot. I found that it worked best in terms of consistency at the warmer loads. Got a great ES (for a ball powder in 223) and over 2800fps out of an 18.5 inch barrel. Playing with seating depth now to see what my rifle prefers. I can easily shoot 25mm groups at the higher loads bit have shot a couple of ragged hole type groups at the lower speeds so me being me I want to see if I can have the velocity and nice groups

You know something's happening too when the 75s get shifting out of a light 223 - well compared to the light splatty varmint bullets anyway

Only tried it with the 85 grain Sierra HP - didn't have the chrono available to check speed unfortunately. Based purely on feel they must have been shifting as I shot the same bullets at 3150fps with 2206H that were mild in comparison. Accuracy however could best be described as mediocre!
Edit: forgot to say that this bullet will shoot 20mm or less with Trailboss easily and the occasional 10mm group with 2206, so it wasn't the bullet causing the shotgun effect!!!

I haven't shot the loads but I'm using 62.6 mm OAL, If let me know what OAL you are using, barrel length and if possible case capacity of H2O I'll run a model for the 75's for you
