    Berdan 223

    Hi Guys & Girls,
i've picked up some small Berdan rifle primers for the 223 & was wondering if there's anyone out there willing to throw my way any fired steel / Brass Berdan cased 223 shells to experiment with that maybe cluttering up your reloading benches.......& yes I know it's not worth it $$$$$/time wise but hate to throw out these primers when they can be used. I've converted Berdan (Both steel & brass) shells to Boxer in the past so I'll do so again should these not wok out. I'll pay postage naturally.
    Regards,
    Phil.

How did your reworking of that tracer end up?
Ive a friend who has some barnaul 223. Rather than leaving them where they drop I'll see if he is interested in picking a few up.

    Hi Marty Henry,
Thanks for that re, your friend.....appreciated.
Yes the tracer experiment went well. I simply pulled the projectiles, & gently drilled into the sealer of the projectile base compound & ignited the tracer with a match which went off with a bit of a red """Whoosh"" & dumped them into some water. After drying I reloaded them back into the shells & fired them off in my Mini action Howa. The accuracy was about 40mm @ 50yds (there was a bit of a variance in projectile weight though) so they would be good enough on the goats out to 90 metres but wouldn't chance them beyond that. It was an interesting experiment & if one was hard pressed for ammo then they'd be good enough. I didn't try them on game though, so will if I come across tracers again......yea....I know....illegal to posses....etc etc but but it's amazing how one can come across such things,....& I'll try them then to see how they perform.
