Dont use a 130sst they are the worst bullet i have seen in a 270 they explode on impact and will cause a big flesh wound, a big red stag and he will run for miles with a chest/shoulder shot from one of these.

Anything with RL26 in it, but shame to waste the unicorn horn dust in something that shoots rubbish bullets.

    @grandpamac yup that's the one.
There is maybe 2 or 3 modern articles about the load. Meant to reasonably accurate.
The writer was of the opinion acted opposite to what it should've done in that case size. Just can't remember which way

if you see what @crunch has put then what @EmpireSafaris has put... you see two very very different loads
both will work IF AND ONLY IF you get your shot placement right the SST will work if you use the crease shot or high in neck...high neck not ideal for big reds and crease really only a side on option
the monos ES favours do work BUT work best when encounter some resistance..EG bone to help break em up or make them work..if they zip through ribs without hitting anything on way in...well not much more resistance than a average sized hare so a pencil like effect....
the 130grn monos are worse as going slower...the 110grn tsx is the best of the barnes lot from all Ive read and seen...Xman on the 6.8 forums did an absolute shit load of mono testing a few years back,Ive followed the results closely... the 0-300 is no big deal to sort..the 300-400 is where you are going to need to be careful

    I agree.
I've heard so many guys raving about how devastating their hotshot 130 grain load is on Sika, Fallow, Reds etc. But they've only shot light framed animals. And when they poke one in to a chunky stag their light soft projectile doesn't penetrate enough to take out the vitals.
This isn't confined to the 270 either.

My go too load for the last 30 years has been 53-54gr of ar2209 with a 130gr projectile. With 130s I just never seemed to get the advertised results using 2213.

Sounds more like a gut or brisket shot.

If you can poke a knife into it's chest cavity, penetration from a rifle bullet isn't the issue, it's shot placement.

Sounds like you don't understand projectile construction and intended application. Just like the guys I was talking about.
Take a look on some ammunition packets (Winchester). They give little pictures of what they recommend that load for. Reasonably sound advice. Which if people took note of there would a lot less debate about projectile performance, or Name: 17201270576011928633377141358466.jpg

As I typed earlier.you got sst or something really soft in rifle you got to slip it in the crease or head/neck shoot. Neck is NOT recommended for worked up stags, never has been for as long as I can remember for the same reasons. Not a hell of a lot different to carrying the smaller .224s with lighter constructed projectiles, you just have to place that tiny pill in a vulnerable soft place.....

I shoot a lot of 130SST superperformance in 270. It's accurate and knocks deer over so fast you may miss them dropping if you blink. I have never had any issues with the SST on any animal.

I’ve loaded for quite a few .270 barrels. At 53-54 gns my exp is your only getting 2850-2900 with a 130 if it has a long throat and 22 inch tube.

If the same barrel you need 62-63 gns of 2213 to crack 3000 fps and 55-56 of 2209.
