Greetings,
I had rounded up all the data I needed for light IMR4198 loads in the .308 and finally did what I should have done done right at the start. I poured the powder out of the non original can into a clean one. There were gremlins in the bottom of the can. There were powder granules stuck to the bottom and sides of the can and a little rust showing. The powder had deteriorated so it joined about 4 pounds of other powder from full unopened cans under the trees. I have been using AR2206H for light .308 loads but that has been hard to get so Benchmark 2 and Benchmark 8208 will be tried. All of the dumped powder had been given to me so I don't feel too bad about it.
Regards GPM.
I've picked rust flakes out of powder that was still dry and smelled good, put it in clean plastic and preceeded to load it up and shoot it. Went just fine. But then I've worked a bit with old powders and yes, some went out as fertilizer. Your mileage may differ.
