    Bombs for Black Beauty

Firstly, forgive me if someone has already told me this somewhere. I still don't speak the language.

On Monday I will hopefully be purchasing my first lot of stuff to make bombs it's all very exciting, especially since I am running out of ammo slowly. Hopefully a good friend will swap some baked goods for the use of his press (yes ebf I'm looking at you, I know how you love my baking!) and I'll be creating deer killing bundles of joy before you know it. Questions though....questions..

    1) In a small quantity (also, what's a small quantity?!) can I store powder just in my house?
    2) HOW should I store it so it doesn't...go off? Get moisture in it? I don't know!!
    3) Same questions for projectiles
    4) Should I buy more 308 brass? What kind?
    5) What do I ask for when I want projectiles?
    6) Am I wasting my time and money buying some manufactured ammo?

Thank you in advanced. Please don't tell me I want "a six inch populating tool" when I go to the counter at the shop......

Its fun but if you don't shoot heaps I'm sure there will be nothing wrong with factory ammo.

Powder is generally bought in pound or kilo for the likes of vita vori
Store it in its original container.
    House not sure.
Projectiles, what did Abe load ya?
Actually ask Abe for the load data for it.
Brass how much have you got now? Do you need more?
Should be good for 7+ reloads

    1) pound tin 0.5 kilo, preferably locked away, also depends on your insurance policy.
    2) original packaging, tin
    3) you'll probably buy 100 or 500 pills at a time, I don't think they need any special storage.
    4) use your existing brass for now
    5) we can talk on Monday, will search thru the black beauty thread, it's in there somewhere
    6) yes, unless you run out of ammo in an emergency

I don't have a press at home (yet) In the short term we just need access to someone's shed with a press, coz you have dies.

It's possibly buried in the build thread.

Negative. At least I don't recall anything in there! Just boom stick, dies, ammo and bolt and heaps of rags

was it 140 bergers only, or anything else ? abe, what speed did you settle on in the end ?

    ta, ebf

other suggestions for heads so far: 129 SST, barnes 127 ?

    put in

    140 berger vld hunting

    bore height????

    sighted in at 150M

speed was 2780 ish will still hit out long way if its a little out from there, i sent dougie the load info final load was so its all known.............

    Lapua .260 brass

    210 primer

    44gr n560

    140gr berger vld hunting

    OAL 2.87"

Some others on here could get it faster with there loading but its not all about speed, load is just book max in the end an will out out shoot most, Going by the weaver sight for the scope if sighted in for 200yards on centre then the other bars are add 100yards for each post with the 260 an 140s

    so with 150m zero

    next post 280m

    next 380m

    next 480m .......................ISH

i would say factory ammo can be a bench mark for how the rifle shoots. when things arnt going/grouping well. its a way to rule out your hand load. then re-load that brass.

Firstly the ammo supplied with the rifle needs to be used at a range to determine the new rifle owners accuracy level, use that ammo up then get someone competent to make more.

The rifles owner may be a 1 moa shot with 1/2 moa ammo, and thats good, more practise needed.

Bully, factory ammo is not a benchmark for anything. Its too variable and general in its intent.

A handload with known recorded assembly measurements and accuracy levels developed for a particular rifle is your benchmark.

You can strive to meet that benchmark as you develop and learn as a reloader, then as your skill progress you can try to improve on that benchmark by superfine tuning that ammo.

Factory ammo is a benchmark to see if you bought the correct caliber boolit to match your rifle

Also as a macro level headspace check, but that's about it

Does also give you some starting numbers speed wise for comparison...

I think he means as in if your rifle can shoot factory ammo good it should do better with reloads
