How do you find out the right length for cases, and how much to trim off??
Buy the case length gauge and trimmer specific to your calibre, then just trim it!
case trim length as well as COAL is listed in most reloading manuals for each cartridge/calibre. Get a case trimmer or trim die and your done
As a lot of the time case length is specified imperial you could probably pick up a quality imperial micrometer for sweet all off TM.....
I just use one of those lee ones that measure and trim the case I just use it by hand but im old school and don't like all the fancy gadgety shit
Buy the Lee quick trim and body you need. It trims and chamfers at the same time and its ready set to the length - 10thou you need.
wikipedia also has the sammi specs
haha after reading your answers I've found info everywhere, couldn't see it for looking. .
thanks guys
This is the method I use to determine my cartridge trim lengths for my F Class rifles http://www.sinclairintl.com/reloadin...prod32925.aspx
For my sporting rifles, despite having a Forster trimmer I just use the Lee OA length gauges and cutter to trim - that and the collet die are about the only good things Lee makes. Their OA length gauges are pretty spot on to SAAMI. Reloaders criticise the Lee for not cutting square - I have never had issues with them. Excellent value. Otherwise good reloading manuals as already said list the info. Have found some of the info that comes up with Google differs to SAAMI. Or, if shooting a custom rifle you can determine off your reamer drawing. I have a link to SAAMI somewhere that I will post - when I find it again. It is a bit hidden by them.
