Early days yet............ Don't want to jinx this.... But after @Tentman's #36 post I did some googling as per his instruction and went with CLR - removed the barrel, short soak, scrub, patch out, oil, pull through... Re-assemble rifle.
20 shots into the target, not a single crack. Shots 1-8 all over the place (high, left), shots 9-15 suddenly groups in a tight cluster (mostly one hole). Adjust scope, shots 16-20 all in the bull.
Fuck.
Pop over to the horse paddock, wind is blowing it's tits off. Shot magpie at 98m with normal 2 mil hold, straight into the wind. Mate flew up and landed under the tawa, 68m across the wind, DRT with the usual half mil hold and a magpie's width for windage. No sonic cracks. Weather has packed in so more testing tomorrow.
I've tried Hoppes, Sweets, Boretech, Autosol, something else at my mates place I can't remember. I last cleaned with Boretech Rimfire about 3 weeks ago - problems persisted.
CLR... didn't know about that.
So the wife is looking up the recipe for the humble pie I hope I'll be cooking by tomorrow arvo. If the weather is sweet I'm going to put 50 rounds down the tube, see what happens. If CLR has fixed it, I'll eat the whole pie and be grateful I learned something (and I'll say sorry to the CCI tech).
