Cci vs federal primers
Just finished some load development with a 260 and a 270. The large rifle primers in the 260 has a 50-80 FPS difference and the same for the 270 but using a large magnum primer. The faster velocities were with the federal 210m and 215m.
I have noticed this a constant trend.
Anyone seen the same occurance or even tested their same loads over the chronograph with different primers.
The brass appeared to be in good working pressure limits
260 123sst lapua brass 22” barrel adi 2209 44 gr and 2900fps
270 145 eldx Norma brass 20” barrel adi 2209 54.3gr and 2840 FPS
I have noticed the same with the 300 wm and 338 lapua
I’m pretty keen to see how that 145eldx goes on game I shot it out to 720m on steel today and i had to true the BC up a little to get it right as things were flatter than the geo ballistics showed. it seemed a lot more consistent than the 150sst at that range. I put a couple into dirt at 420 and 720 while getting it doped so I will go and retrieve some bullets to see what they opened up like and will post them later. I have also run some actual dope with the 129 Barnes lrx at that range too and was a good flier.
Hope some of this helps anyone looking into these two relatively new projectiles as there is not much out there on them.

have you tried cci br2 primers in the 260?
-
No I haven’t just the usual what ever they are 2 4 and 600’s
What are you running for the match in he weekend in your 260.

Above loads were found by loading 7 in a ladder test over the chronograph and then picking the flat spot in velocities and loading 3 right in the middle. No tweaking. Load done

Expansion of 129 Barnes lrx 270. Left 2 are 420m right 2 are 280m
The left bullet is a 338 285 eldm I picked up beside the target at 2km.

This has the velocity’s written on it for the cci to federal primer comparison. About 50-80 FPS difference.
Anyone else had these kind of results.

Cowboy06, you could also try Superformance powder in your 270 and 260. I tried it a with the 145 ELD X and it was exceptional. Velocity was 3114 fps average of 6 shots, and at 100 yards 3shots into one hole. Superformance is a little slower burning than AR 2213 SC so I loaded with that in mind. 57 grains was my load with the ELD X but if you are going to try it yourself work up to that starting at about 54 grains.
I have shot 2 deer with the 145 gr ELD X and they worked well, one was at 270 yards and not shot well but went about 10 meters the other was at 50 yards and went straight down. Fair bit of damage on that one on the front shoulder. My rifle is a Tikka 270 Win with 22 inch barrel.

Thanks for that mooseman. I might look out for some. I have tried 2217 before but I had a full case and still not real fast speed. I’ve heard that super performance powder it pretty quick. How is the pressure. Tikka barrels are supposed to be slow but 3100 is honking. I was trying to think I compared the Chrono speeds of my 20” against a 24” sako 75 with 140sst hornady factory ammo and I think there was 200 FPS in it. I’ve got heaps of deer to cull in the spring so I will get a good idea how good the bullet is then.
