    CFE223 & 55 grain .223

Has anyone got a straight up never fail load for this combination.
Ive got a truck load of CFE223 and 1000 55 grain Hornady projectiles that I want to use as a combo culling pests. I especially want to use the CFE223 in a good load or I might as well move it on.

I cant seem to get it to shoot (Tikka and Rem M7)

The projectiles shoot just fine with W748 and 2206. Is CFE223 too slow for 55 grain?

    Thanks

I'd say it's a bit too slow. Iirc, it's a tad slower than 2208. In my experience, the slow for calibre ball powders with light bullets burn like coal (which isn't great for consistency or accuracy) right up until you're hitting top pressures. Load them spicy and maybe use a magnum primer. And I still wouldn't expect them to shoot as well as those Targex do.

I would much prefer to just use BM2, 8208, or 2206H.

You need to use a lot of it to get the speed up. I've never had great luck with it in 223.

I got the cfe223 for my 7-08 which has gone as part of the great thinning. Great powder in 7-08.
Yes, I would swap and would be generous with the exchange..
Ive got about 4kg of cfe223.

I played around with a few loads in my T3 .223 with 55 gr projectiles but wasn’t overly happy. I had better results accuracy wise with AR2206H

I never ran the loads through a chronograph as I was always chasing accuracy first and foremost.

On a side note, I felt like I had more carbon buildup with CFE223

748 for the triple deuce. BM2 for 223. My mate loves the 55gr Hornady. Getting superb accuracy from 8t Tikka.

It's good powder for chasing speed in a short barrel 308. Great in a Grendel. Anecdotally good for heavies in 223. I think I've loaded up over 28grs with 55's in a 223 and got much the same speed as 25.5gr of BM2.

Not sure what powder availability is like over in NZ . CFE223 is on par with VV N140 as has been said , more suitable for the heavier bullets in the 223 .
I've had good results with the 55 grain bullets using X-terminator , but by far my best results are with N133 and CCI 450 primers .
My current load is giving extremely good accuracy and 3110 fps using 23.1 grains in a 22" barrel.

Great powder for the 6x45 owners who run 85gr + loads. It prefers the heavies in the 223 base case.

Just checked my notes. Went well with Nos 60 grn. I obviously tried it with 55 grn V Max because my notes say " 27 CFE223 55 grn V max, not great" Didn't measure it so must have been bad. Might grab some for the short barreled .308 though. H&F had some last time I looked.

    I load 27.1gn of CFE 223 with 55gn Hornady #2266.
I get 2850 fps through a Ruger Ranch with 16” Barrel.
Shoots very well with groups often covered with a single patch.

Same as others above. Couldn't get an accurate load in my T3 Superlite with CFE and 55's.
