    Cleaning mistake

Hi all I have a hornady powder thrower tube that I have ruined.
Sprayed with gun oil instead of dry lube then I was stupid enough to use thinners to get the oil out and it now has gone milky and sticky.

Anyone have an old one they might part out or sell cheap

Or know where to get a new tube from ( google is now very helpful)

Measure external diameter and tke your veneer calipers with you into payless plastics....the warehouse.....pipeline.....hose doctor......basically anywhere that may sell plastic tube or cylindrical containers of the right diameter...heck even a bit of alkathene pip the right diameter will get you up n running again, not being able to see powder level is not a deal breaker.

    Thanks. It’s 56.7mm outside. I think it’s pvc ?

Looks like I’ll have to wait till I get back closer to town on Tuesday to find a place.
I should be able to use the bace - only want a few 223 loads till then

could you spray paint the plastic maybe with some clear finish so at least the tube isn't sticky?

I ve got two powder throwers and they works really well..... simple LEE spoons work just about as quickly...for years I used a plastic mr whippy spoon onto the scales you get good at filling the right amount into spoon and shaking excess off.
if doing less than 30-40 rounds I seldom use powder thrower.... its just about quicker to weigh each charge into pan,by time you set up thrower and empty it afterwards .

Save the hassle and stuffing around. It's a clear plastic tube. As Micky Duck said, go get a new piece.

    Leave the sticky there

Line the sticky with tinfoil, which will adhere to the inside of the tube, and keep using it

    Then order a new one

Try a flame, something like a small blow torch. Too much and it will melt so be careful.

Ive seen good ol' fashioned drink bottles used to replace powder hoppers. Pick one that has an appropriate sized neck, the solid bit with the thread etc and carefully file/sand the thickest piece to to the right diameter. Trim off the excess, cut off the bottom about 30-40 mm up from the bottom. Up end it and seat it. Then use the bottom as a cap.

yip that works with the shotgun reloaders.... the one shown is quite a bit fatter and has straight sides...he could get lucky and find small water bottle the right size though......

I thought you could only use tinfoil as a hat, has it got other uses?

Try the engineering supply stores. LEP, Dotmar or Supply services.

Polycarbonate or acrylic tube. By your description with the
brakleen melting it it's probably acrylic which should be cheaper than Polycarbonate to buy.
