If you can't buy factory ammo in the chambering you're using, the comparison is rather irrelevant as in the case of my .284 comp gun. Having said that, I'll have a chance soon to try some factory 6BR Lapua ammo in a new toy. By reputation, it's pretty damn good.

One thing that seems obvious to us old fullas is that the average quality of factory ammo has really risen over the decades.

my #2 nosler manaul has a page dedicated to the LEE whackamole in .222remington the basic ammunition made using it and non weighed powder charge..scope only was better than the factory ammunition around at that time.... its definately better than it once was but there are still some really slow loadings and the odd really hot one out there.
    75/15/10 black powder matters

I stopped loading 223 after I tried some Belmont black. Yes I could load slightly faster and slightly more accurate ammunition but was an incremental improvement, and when the factory loaded ammunition was less than the cost of the projectiles I was using the decision was made easy.
Other calibres I still load due to the cost advantage but even federal blue box is perfectly acceptable stuff.

Pretty much old news & I always tell customers if they find some factory ammo that shoots fantastic in their rifle to go & buy 10 packets of the same batch/lot #

The factory ammo for modern cartridges is generally provides outstanding results in well made firearms, case in point https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....minator-94211/

22 hornet is one that definitely benefits from hand loads as far as I've experienced. Also the 6.5x55
