Assuming you mean the plastic tip?
Should only effect the bc and maybe the fast expanding
AR mag length?
Bugger the experimental reloading, use a more appropriate length/shaped projectile for your situation.
If you're only shooting to 200 why not use a lighter shorter bullet? I shot 55g SGKs at .5 moa at 400 yds the other day, so they are acurate.
I cant imagine it will be unsafe. I have had to round off the noses (in a lathe) of accubonds to fit my 284 otherwise would be way deep in the case to still fit mag. I tried some in my 7mm saum and they were no less accurate than normal ones. Normal ones are 130 thou off lands to fit mag but accurate anyway so just live with it now. Am not sure what effect modification might have on game but they look like they would hurt quite a bit.
The long distance performance will be reduced, but should matter at 200m or less.
Plenty of old timer cullers use to cut the tip of FMJ milsurplus ammo for deer.

I believe the 75gr BTHP is the same thing without the tip. They fragment down to quite low impact velocity on ballistics gel. If for an AR you can mill out a slot in the front of the mag for the tips but it will only feed reliably for 5 rounds.
I have 69grain sierras which i am using but thought i would give the amax a go for something to do. I will lop the tips off and give them a go , they will pop up on here for sale if they fly sideways . Will keep an eye out for the hpbt cheers
The Sierra 77gr SMK and TMK are both advertised as working at AR mag length.
Would certainly be my choice.
