Demise of the 7mm Rem Mag

After reading through Duleys latest three articles on 7 PRC, and once Tikka, Sako etc bring out this caliber in factory offering, would anyone bother with the rem mag anymore? No belt, no more over crowding of case capacity with deep seated projectiles to fit magazines, decent twist rate, good speeds in a shorter 20” barrel, chuck out a 190 grainer doing 3000 fps+ in a longer barrel etc

    Thoughts?

We have many cartridges that in theory are now redundant, but they just keep chugging along. 7mm mag been here for so long and has history with so many it won't just disappear overnight.

Absolutely the 7mm rem mag is obsolete. Better send me your spare barrels and any brass you've got laying around.
I'll even pay for the postage.

On a serious note, not much in really new. In the mid 1890s the Swedish started tooling around with a fandangle 6.5x55mm cartridge. There have been improvements over the last 125 years, but nothing really ground breaking.

I’ve been shooting 7mm rem mag for 30 years and will for at least another 30.
Mines an old heavy Sako too

Rem mag has more case capacity and seats the heavies in long throat long magazine Sakos.

162-180 grainers at full chat are often more recoil than most can handle with high levels of precision. Add a muzz brake and suffer the concussion from the redirected gasses, add a suppressor and up goes the weight and down goes the portability of your “ lightweight”
We already carry enough clutter and shit around to ruin the hunting experience, guys even wear camo when long range shooting

You don’t need 190 grainers when the 180s sack reds and Sika at 1500yards, if you do need 190 grainers for the extra reach then the wind will stop you from harvesting 80% of the time, you then get closer and it’s a no problem shot with a rem mag

You would have to be really sure your rifle shot the 190 grainers well before you went out and purchased a rifle to only shoot one projectile

If you already have a rem mag I’d covet it and keep hunting

I see Remington and others are now offering 1:8 twist 7RMs.

    I have a 75, 92mm ? Mag length.
Long pills not drama, seat right out and fill the case. Should have more capacity than the 7PRC, but a 162 is enough for my needs so far.

Well it's clearly irresponsible and unethical to be using an obsolete caliber like that

    Shame on you !

The only calibre that could bring about its demise would be the 223

I do hope you posted that as a joke yes yes you did because comparing a .223 to a 7mm rem mag is like comparing a VW Beatle to a Holden Commodore SS V8 - absolutely no comparison

.223 the magic calibre that stands proud and doesn't abide by this 1000ftlbs of energy to be ethical nonsense
