    Digital Scales

Has anyone tried the small pocket size digital scales you see on TM for weighing powder?

I have been using Hornady beam scales for weighing Trail Boss and it’s a pain in the butt.
Just thought a small set of digitals might be the go to weight out 8gns of powder a bit more accurately.

    Thoughts?

If you want frustration buy some. Those cheap electronic scales are a pain in the arse. You spend more time trying to get them to read correctly and balanced correctly than using them.
Unfortunately you are better off with the balance beam type or jump up significantly to RCBS Chargemaster - which I did eventually n the best thing I every did.

Yep I’ve got a similar set that cost about $30. They are as accurate as my sartorius scale and weigh to 0.02gn or a single kernel basically. I have to keep an eye on the tare weight and hit the button to ensure it’s properly zeroed between charges if it drifts. I know the weight of the pan so the negative value when the pan is removed is also a handy indicator of any drift. Before I got the lab scales I’d check weigh with my beam scales.

I have something simlar for weighing liquids. I think with most digital scales.... Let them warm up for a bit, leaving on for a while before start.

R, get yourself a electronic trickler.

    Beam scales rock

Cheap electronic scales suck big time - they drift etc.

Ive got the small Hornady one and I find it works ok, have to re-zero it sometimes if it drifts. I use a powder thrower set to throw approx .3 under and then use the scale and a manual trickler to top up weight. The system works ok and is much quicker than I can use a beam scale.

Ive checked the electronic scale against the beam scale a few time and it always reads the same.

I have heard that they are unreliable and was told the beam scale are the best bet.

I have the same as PJC. Works OK for me. I used to double check it with my beam ballance but now I'm just repeating the same load each time i don't bother getting the beam scale out.
The little Hornady electronic scale dose drift a little and can take a few seconds to move up that last 1/10 of a grain. Don't want to rush it or you may go over.
I sort of figure it's about consistently doing it the same. Better to wait and see if it's going to drift up that last 1/10 grain to get to my target number than race up to my target and then see it go over.
Would be frustrating if you are doing lot of loads but then I would just set my powder throw and just check say every 5th lot on the scale.

Buy once, cry once. A&D lab scales all the way. I know not everyone is chasing single digit ES and SD but shit it makes long range shooting a lot easier. I double weigh, so charge master then fancy scales. You'd be surprised how often charge master is out by way more than 0.1 gr.

Have you seen the auto thrower and trickler system for the A&D? I'm very tempted to get 1 for my scale. Got a replacement pan and base for my scale from Area 419 through @camo wsm recently, very nice!

I have heard of it, but never really looked into it. I don't do a huge amount of reloading and quite enjoy taking my time......can't hurt to take a look though I can't see the base on their website.

Ross i use some lyman 1500 someshit and beam. Spoon onto digi to within .2 geegees or so, drop it on the beam, pinch a fee granules and done. Has speed up the process heaps.

Tray is a more accurate description:
