    Disposing of old ammunition

My father-in-law recently dropped off some old ammunition (reloaded 22 hornet, .243, .303, .44 rem magnum, 30-30 win). Well over 100 rounds. Can we still dispose of this at the NZ Police? I've searched their webpage but they are a bit vague...

    Cheers for your help

Probably can but burial or controlled burning is probably simpler.

    Offal hole.
Real guns start with the number 3 or bigger and make two holes, one in and one out

It used to be dumped in cook strait or out beyond great barrier I think. In the 60’s, I was in our college’s Bren gun team. Four of us we given 10,000 rounds of three oh ammo to dispose of….on a 25 yard range up Pyes Pa, Tauranga way. Pongas got chopped up, barrels got too hot to touch, big holes were created in the bank and I’ve been deaf ever since!

Loving all of these replies... the solution(s) seem so obvious now. Just in case anyone is interested, below are some pics... otherwise off to the quarry it will go!

If there is a Gun City local to you, they would likely take it off your hands.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt

.243 ammo is gone once I work out how to get it to Hawkes Bay.

SLR - my in-laws live in Chch so I can get him to take the ammo back with them next time they are up for the school holidays. So consider it yours if you are happy to wait!

I could drop this off in a few weeks potentially if Hoppy wants to rehome it
