Stirrer  They'll be outa stock before I get mine with the amount pre-ordered!
Thought you were were my mates??? I checked my letter box this morning and nope, nothing.
Move along NOTHING TO SEE HERE FOLKS - just the normal amaxs... These are not the droids you are looking for!
What was the cost per box of 100??????
These are different a-maxs says so on the box and the tip is a different colour - too scary to look at the cc slip
My gut tells me it has a lot to do with marketing.
If they are heaps dearer than the Amax then they have achieved what they intended.
Ya gotta ask who released the info of the tips melting.
Who will profit from improving something that works as well as anyone will be able to shoot at LR.
The Amax works even if the tip does melt😆
But in saying that I have ordered some to try.

Identical construction to Amax probably but now they can market them for hunting
What do they cost.
Yeah similar to Amax, a bit more. What do they cost here
Had to change the seating depth from old a-max, further out by .05, shot in the same point of aim.
Five round group old a-max chronographed at 3022fps SD 16 / ELD-X 5 round 3077fps SD 14 both groups very similar round 18mm
Quite surprised at the velocity increase with the same powder charge 50fps
Thicker jacket causing a bit more pressure and velocity maybe?
r they available here yet ? who's got them ?
At least by the time I run out of A-max these will be more available and dropped in price. Finger crossed at least
Mine are coming Monday. Give workshopinnovation an email. The m's($76.95 box100) and x's ($81.95). want to try both eventually but I'm keen to try the heavier x's which are 143gn. Might find there's no benefit in performance over the 140 eld-m's. Who knows?

Some on here guys
For the disbelievers and conspiractists this is a hole new bullet .055 longer that old A-Max, loaded in a 6.5GAP and 6.5x284 loaded to suit T3 magnum mag.

Of to the range

That is impressive!
Just wondering, if say you're as far fwd to the lands possible but then they make the bullet longer and heavier; this puts the arse back into the powder. You have to put in less... Does this mean the ELD-M would be moving faster at 1km than the X despite the slightly lower bc???
Dammit...well maybe this is a good thing. I used quickload to factor in the two alternatives and also account for the loss of .5 grains of powder for the ELDX plus the extra weight and better bc. Then ran it through applied ballistics
All that for nothing. The effects cancel each other out perfectly, landing the ELDX a bigger punch and longer range (the only con is that the M might have better consistency but you could fix that with sorting). This crap put to rest - I'm off shooting :)
I have 300+ Amax on the shelf will use them for practice in my 6.5x68 then look at the E-LD when i put on a new tube
Would love to hear 1st hand whether these hold together better in game than the normal amax's at close range.
Was out with a mate on Saturday, and had a 6.5mm 140 grain Amax grenade in a Fallow deer shoulder, requiring a 2nd shot. launched at 2750fps 197m shot. Yeah, I know... shot placement.
been of to do some load development and job done!http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...e6e8dd9141.jpg
the old saying if not broken don't fix it!

Looks awesome I hope to try mine out further next weekend at 100 it's spot on so hope I can get it to group half as good as yours I'll be happy.

The AMAX reputation for hunting was surely built on a combination of accuracy and the ability to both expand and then fragment reliably on impact at 1800 ft/sec and below, and often quite a lot less. After Berger split their range into Orange and Yellow boxes, and despite Berger's claim to the contrary, their hunting bullets anecdotally also became less frangible, leaving the AMAX as the only mainstream design with this extreme of behaviour.
From the marketing blurb it appears as if Hornady with the ELD-X design are striving to give away this ability. Thicker shank and added interlock points to a move away from fragmentation towards more controlled expansion - - ground already covered by the NBT and a number of others - even if the impact speed required for the initiation of expansion remains low
Maybe the ELD-Match is a more direct replacement for the AMAX, retaining a thinner jacket for the target bullet variants (in reverse of the change that occurred with the Bergers) and therefore low-speed fragmentation ? Has anyone sectioned the three bullets for comparison and could post an image please ?
Anyone shot any game with the ELD-M yet?
Has someone tried to anneal their eld yet? Since the tip not supposed to melt... I thought why not ? ( just kidding ;-)
I shot 3 deer the other day for meat for the freezer and they seemed to work pretty good with neck shots.
all exited so could be a bit different to the amax.
they all bang flopped and then bled them out.not to much meat damage.
jury is still out

Having trawled for all the info I could find since my last post, I'm persuaded that the ELD-match can be treated as a direct replacement to the A-Max with the same terminal behaviour, perhaps requiring a small amount of load redevelopment for best accuracy. No need to stock-pile the A-Max then.
Sure. The information below comes from condensing a series of anecdotal accounts of folk in the US who were recounting having spoken with reps or claiming some sort of insider knowledge.
The majority opinion was that while the 6.5mm 140gr ELD Match has the new heat shield tip and also some small dimensional changes that may require a slight increase in jump to the equivalent A-Max seating depth for accuracy sweet spot, the overall construction remains very similar leading to a prediction that all aspects of terminal performance should essentially be the same. Also that the published B.C. improvements over the A-Max were mainly due to the tip material change and applied at longer ranges where deformation had been observed in the A-Max tip. The remaining portion of the improvement in B.C. was attributed to the above mentioned dimensional changes.
The 143gr ELD-X is the new design. It shares some obvious similarities with the ELD Match - the same tip and a thin forward jacket - that leads to the conclusion that the initiation of expansion will likely be similar in similar circumstances. The subsequent behaviour resulting from the interlock and thicker base is knowledge that will need to be built up by the hunting community over time. No doubt there will be a flood of reports come September - October as these bullets both get widespread use in the U.S. on medium game for the first time.
