I tested a few factory rounds today (first time I have used any for decades) and was surprised by the ES over 6 rounds.
It was a 22-250 with an average MV (at 10') of 3672fps and an ES of 104fps. Would this be considered normal for factory ammo?

Experience. What you get just after you needed it.
yes...and if you go back 30 years ANY spread of less than 50 fps was considered very good going.
when you consider the 22-250 will NORMALLY be usedfrom 0-300 yards...thats not going be miss a bunny material. its still fair honking along.
75/15/10 black powder matters
Hornady varmint express 55gn V-Max.

Sako has the tightest iv seen same as me havent used factory in donkeys
The best I've come across is that cheap copper wash 7.62x39 fmj. That was less than 10 fps. And it shot well too.
But same here, I hardly ever use factory ammo now.
Overkill is still dead.
When you are hunting its the first round accuracy thats important. As the barrel warms up with successive shots the POA is going to change no matter what brand of ammo you use .
Factory loaded ammunition is what im reffering to
Factory ammo does vary quite a bit even lot to lot. 5 or 6 years ago I recall being surprised by some Sako 308 ammo, ES was over 100fps within the same box.
In the weekend I tested some 22 match ammo, within the same packet 3 different rifles ES was 22, 19 and 16 fps. SDs in the 5.7 to 7.2 range. That's fantastic 22 ammo!
Factory ammo has come along way in those 5-6 years I tested some sako ammo a few weeks back a es of 40, some of the factory hornady Prc ammo I was using had a Es of 25, that's pretty good for factory ammo some can't achieve that with handloads

so what is drop difference between slowest and fastest at 300 yards????.....and thats a long way for a 55grn pill.

Just ran the figures using a 100 yds zero, a 55 grain bullet and 300yds to target these are the results.
Mv 3650 drop at target from zero 7.8 inches
Mv 3750 drop at target from zero 7.2 inches
Mv 3850 drop at target from zero 6.7 inches
So it looks like a 200 fps spread only makes one inch difference at 300 yds which is likely to be much less than operator error. Note there's no allowance for wind drift but it's likely to be similar.
