    getting going - 308

just starting to reload and wondering if anyone can give me a heads up on a good load to get underway with.
bush hunting and at max will be medium range shots
running it through a 16 inch kimber montana which has been happily punching 0.5 - 0.75inch groups at 100y with the 'old' hornady SST 150gr factory
already have quite a few once fired hornady brass so plan to use those
any pointers would be great as it will give me somewhere to start, cheers!

2206h at max with most projectiles works really well in my tikka

Got rounds loaded up for my t3 in 308 using 2206h yet to get round to shooting them but my suspicion is as @matai said it will be right up at max

Well you know the rifle likes the 150SST's so it makes sense to reload with them and as the others have said AR2206H is a fairly standard powder for 308s.

thats a logical call, i can't see the SST on the ADI site but will have a look at my hornady manual.

keen to hear from anyone else who runs a cut down kimber in 308

yip 2206h will see you right. My mod 7 has a 16" barrel and shoots whatever i feed it really well. got loads for 125 Accubond 3050fps, 130 barnes 3016 fps, 165 nosler BT 2700 fps, 165 sierra game kings same and 168 vld 2600 fps. They have all shot less than an inch groups at 100.

Id look at a 150 grain in the ADI book and go for it with the SST

don't sweat it if you cant find SST data just pick 150 grn data and get loading..... if you cant get hold of SST projectiles grab another from Mr Hornady and go out and punch some holes in something anyway.

I got my 20" suppressed R700 in 308 shooting quite well with 165 Sierra game kings on the lands, three holes touching or very close to it. I'm a hunger more than a shooter though so the velocities, energy and performance window of that pill, along with the fact it was a mag-jammer with excessive coal brought me back to 150 SST. Probably sits around the .75 MOA mark. 2206h at around 2700 fps and about a 75% load.

Earlier versions of the adi book just give bullet weight, funnily enough the charge weights appear to be the same as when they started listing bullets by maker. As did all my loads from the earlier books i still use them if starting smething from scratch.
