    Going over to the dark side

    Thanks to the generosity of certain forum members with their time and gift of 308 dies (cheers @Gibo), I have decided it is time to give the dark art of reloading a try out for myself.
    I know 19% of stuff all about it so far, but will learn as I go.
    Not wanting to spend up to big to start with, so thinking of going with one of the Lee kits available. Thing is, I already have dies for 308 and 300 win mag, so not sure if these will work with Lee kit. Are the threads universal on the various makes??

    Are these kits a good starting point? Trying to keep spending under control in case it turns out to be not my cup of char.

    @Pengy

    Welcome to the brotherhood

    Yes the die threads are universal 7/8x14 and yes the Lee kits are worthwhile.

    But beware:

    First comes fascination followed quickly by addiction.

    Cheers

    Deep dark hole that it is.... Soon enough you will be trimming brass to the nearest thou and checking it all for run out and consistent primer pockets and flash holes!

    I reckong all you would need is a reasonable press, scales and case lube. Loading block you can make and you will be away. Oh and a loading manual

    +1

    I could send you up my old scales, powder thrower and trickler @Pengy. They don't get used much so you can have them.

    @Pengy
    Have all the gear (Hornady Classic setup).
    Dabbling with FL die setup (1/2 dozen buggered cases large), neck sizing die set up (2 buggered cases).
    Next step - reloading Lapua cases already primed.
    Have a heap of Federal cases and PMC in 308 if you want to experiment, before playing with quality brass.
    PM me with addy and I'll send ya 50 Fed to play with - N/C.

    If I could offer one peice of advice it would be dont buy a cast aluminuim press.
    Buy a cast iron even if second hand.

    I have everything here for 308 if you want to have a play and or bring your dies for the mans gun.

    @Rushy, you are too late. By asking the question he is already committed, and probably should be too.

    I have a good quality RCBS powder thrower, RCBS scales (Ohaus 5-0-5 I think) and RCBS trickler that will be packaged up tomorrow.
