Smile gonna make some ammo to suit my 7mm-08

As we all know the roar is coming coming, so i gotta make some ammo. THats why I am here to tell you guys what I got to work with and and see what people would do with it.
Firstly I have plenty of brass , all once or twice fired .
Winchester nickel plated , Winchester Brass, Sako. Remington RP , Remington FC , PPU , Hornady .
    And , 2208 ,2209, 2206H , R 19, N 160 .
And CCI primers , or Remington 9.5 LR
    And these projectiles
    hornady 139 SP interlock
    hornady 139 BTSP interlock,
    140 Nosler Spitzer,
    Barnes 150 TTSX ,
    Hornady 150 ELDx
    Hornady 154 SP interlock
    Sierra 160 spitzer
    Hornady 162 ELDx
    Sierra 165 Game changer
    Barnes 168 LRX BT.

So heres the question ....I typically need to shoot less than 100 mts , but sometimes it can be out to 400 mts ridge to slip ( you know how it is !) What would you put together . Something that plants them at a hundy and then Maybe something that does it again at 400 .
Personally I favour the 150 ELD x , but have never been able to get my loads to match the commerccial product .
FYI I use 2 mossbergs , a patriot and a 4x4 . One is set for 400 on a Boyds stock, the other is set for 200 and carries a day/night vison scope, and still in its Nylon stock . Both have "extra" headspace beyound the standard COAL of 2.80 . Both "can" shot 1 inch groups . Shame though I cant !!
    cheers
    les

42gn's 2209, pushing along either of the Hornady 139 Interlocks. Work up your loads as this is about max, and compressed. See which works best, the flat base or the BT base, and then have at it......all the way out to 400 if need be. And only if you use a rangefinder to verify it is actually 400.

Don't do that....42 grains is 5 grains underneath the starting load for 139 grain bullets and 2209.

I load 50 grains 2209 in my 7x57 with the 139 grain Hornady interlocks (Not the boattails.) Damn good bullet on deer, and the load shoots into less than an inch. I would recommend you try the same load in your 7mm08 - and then use it for everything.

That would be 42 gn of 2208 behind a 139/140 in the 7/08.

I load 150 eldx in 7-08 Tikka at mag length with 2208 I think it's around 40grns but you will need to test your rifle with different powder weights to avoid pressure.
Just stick to one brand of brass and I would ditch the rest.

I've have great success with the 162 eld-m in my 7mm08 with adi 2208, but find the eld-x not so great at the reduced velocity of the 7mm08.
The 150gr ELD-X can be very fussy in some rifles, they either shoot well or they don't. The eld-x is just an updated sst projectile without the cannilure but improved BC, jacket thickness and core is the same.

From the projectiles listed, I'd work up a load with the 139gr and 2208.....which will sit around 42-42.5gr 2208

    Greetings @LJPRMC,
I recently chronographed 42.5 grains of AR2208 with the Remington Corelokt in a 19 inch barrelled 7mm-08 at 2,710 fps. This is 1 grain below Hodgdon/ADI max and should shoot well with any of your 139 or 140 grain projectiles. I also chronographed 41.5 grians with the 150 grain Remington Corelokt which gave 2,585 fps. This is just over the Hodgdon max of 41.3 grains but was fine with the short Corelokt projectile. Loads for the Barnes 150 grain TTSX should be held at or below the Hodgdon max of 39.7 grains of AR2208 for this projectile. As always lower loads should be tested and worked up from. You may find that stability is a problem with some of the heavier projectiles.
I think that you will find that AR2208 is easily the best of the powders you have. You could try AR2209 but the Hodgdon data was likely worked up for the slower and earlier version.
    Regards Grandpamac.

What barrel lengths are you running? This will have an effect on a few different things. I like to run heavy for caliber, tried the fast and light route but didn't gel with it. In my 17" 7mm08 im running the 162 amax, strolling along at 2530fps but hits like thors hammer. My suggestion for you would be 162eldx and 2208 or 2209 depending what it likes best. But thats just my silly opinion on the internet. Remember, velocity thrills, energy kills.

Both run 22 inch . Have heard tho, of a 16 inch in 7mm-08 doing much the same as you have described using the 162 amax as well . its impossible now , to find the amax gear anymore so i am hopeing someone is going to come up with the "damn near same" dope for the 162 eld x .

    -39 - 41 grains are higher end charges for 2208 with 162eldx

-Around 45 grains for 2209 (compressed)

Members on here seem to run a little hotter if using the match version.

If you want to get to 400m you need to load for that distance imo. 162gn interlocks wouldve been a good compromise.
