    Got to booboo

As a young man I hunted the kokotahi toaroho block for the Forest service, up the bottom end of the kokotahi was a hut named booboo. And this is what I would like to talk about, the booboo part anyway. A little while ago I'd reloaded some 22 hornet cases, now normally you pop out the primer ,do some squizz on the throat, pop in a primer and follow that with powder. Now this part I forgot and that what made me think of booboo hut. After trying two shells that didn't feed I shine,d the torch down the chamber to see a bum end of a 40 gr Hornady VMAX. A trudge back home to rod it out.Micky duck is right, I'm forgetting things.

Happens I load for a few friends and 6 months ago we were out and one didn’t go bang in his .270 first thoughts were primer until I shook the case and it sounded empty pulling it confirmed this luckily for us as it was a busy night of shooting the primer wasn’t enough to push the 145gn pill out of the case and we continued

Peering down into cases with light before seating works well when doing a batch, but smokey...with your whackamole you just HAVE to be systematic...no stopping for cuppa and coming back WITHOUT checking where your up to. Oh well no one died, you weren't lined up on big stag do chaulk it up to a booboo.

Damn, been there before. Same thing, trying to chamber a 7mm rem mag round and why won't it go in? Ah, there's a bullet in the way
Lesson learned, and like MD said, no body died, learn from it and you'll be fine.

You would think so, but this is the second time. Perhaps I need to crimp, that might hold the projectile in the case?

I don't think that's the step to add

Put a sticky on your box of bullets that says "is there powder in all of them?!"

Or on the press handle, or the powder bottle or somewhere you'll look before you seat them. Oo on the seating die?

Only ever happened once to me before I started using the torch.

    Prime 20
    Powder 20
Use torch to check powder in all 20
    Seat bullet.

Drop a match stick into each case before seating bullet, if there's powder in the case you can pull it out again, if case is empty the stick drops all the way in.

    Greetings all,
I have always charged one case at a time and then seated the projectile. Part of my routine is to look down into the case to ensure there is powder in it prior to seating the projectile. With advancing years and just in case I have recently added the step of weighing each completed round before it gets boxed. The powder charge is usually many times the variation in case weights, at least it is on my loads. Works for me.

I USED to shake case up by my ear after loading to hear powder move...not so useful if compressed charge or your hearing is poked...

I've actually done this but used a trimmed bit of plastic tubing.

The added bonus it tells you if the amount of powder is about the same in each case.
