    Gun Powder Shortages in SI

Apparently Mainfreight is no longer carting powder and the ferries won't allow vehicles with powder (bulk amounts I presume) on board.
There is bugger all powder in the SI at the moment due to this.
Other transport Co's wont freight it either.
Possibly a container from Napier to Lyttelton happening but it won't be cheap.

The issue is with Interislander. They use to have a dangerous goods Sunday morning sailing. No passengers allowed. They have now changed that to allow more passengers, but have restricted the classes of dangerous good that can go on that sailing, now gunpowder not allowed. Bluebridge allows 10kg max.

I took the afternoon off work and spent it loading up ammo for a couple of rifles, so stocks in the North Island are running low too

The petrol (or any fuel for that matter) in the vehicles on board the ferries would pose more of a threat than a few pallets of powder.

+1, u beat me to it. Bunch of farkin numpties.
On the plus side talking to Steve of Steve Wholesale at the Shot Show last weekend he mentioned that importing powder was going to get easier cos the DG classification had changed to same as Ammo & could be shipped together.

Someone needs to crank up CAC again , don't like the thought of us being cut off from a decent supply of ammo or powder

Lets get freed of the north islanders, "REPUBLIC OF SOUTH NEW ZEALAND"!!! LOL just joking… Ah, well, the NI already pay less for the power the south island produce etc… why not?! Again, Just joking! (but is is true, we SI"nders" even pay tax on our fuel that subside things in "Auckland" - correct me if i am wrong and been silly).

There are (legal) ways around this. I don't expect our powder supplies to be restricted after an
initial work around is established, likely during the next few weeks.

What the ferry companies don't know doesn't hurt them.

In January returned from the North Island with more than 10kg of powder in my vehicle.
Also had more than 300 loaded rounds and 2 rifles locked securely in the vehicle.

Made a return trip later in the month with 2 rifles and over 1000 loaded rounds.
Came back with 2 rifles and 500 rounds.

Made the crossings safely. No-one and no vehicle was hurt. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Potential component shortages (for whatever reason) is why I try to have 12 months worth of components in my storage.

I've run out of projectiles in the past and then found they weren't available in NZ. Never again.
    I'd load about 3500-4000 rounds a year.

Pays to keep a bit in reserve if possible, it wasn't long ago when Canada couldn't get much of anything for reloading ( especially premium bullets)as the Americans were bulk buying everything ... could happen again.
