    H4895 in 223

I was just wondering if anyone uses H4895 in their .223? I'm about to start loading for the .303, .308 and .223. I am planning to use H4895 in the 303 and 308. Many posts have recommended that H4895 is too slow for the 223, while others have said it's great (on overseas forums). I'm planning to use the Sierra 55gr Game Kings. The Buffalo ammo I usually use has this projectile, but it's not available here at the moment. Has anyone here have any first hand use? It would be great in these times of component shortages to use one type of powder. Thanks in advance.

24.5grns of AR 2206h is a good load, for your 55grn pill in .223.....I believe dama dama is correct I can never remember which way around they are with the equivilents so have to look them up...I use the hogdgon equivilent or 2213 in the mighty 270 and find it great,I interchange the data between the two happily BECAUSE IM NOT AT MAXIMUM.....if hotrodding loads, all bets are off, reduce and work back up...low to middle loads should be fine as any small different in burn rate wont push over edge.

4895 is also very close to Win748 which is fine in 223. I use 25gr of win 748 or Belmont 748 (or Belmont Action Rifle aka 747) with 69gr bullets.

Yep i use 2206H in 223, behind bullets from 55gr to 75gr, it goes good and gives higher velocities than 2208

ADI make the powder, send it to Hogden, who package and market it as H4895. ADI make and supply a lot of different powders to other companies.

    Greetings @bumblefoot and all,
AR2206H (H4895) is currently my go to powder for my .223, .308 and .303 rIfles. In my T3x .223 25.5 grains with the 55 grain projectile gives 3,130 fps from the standard 570mm barrel and 25 grains with the 69 grain Match King gives 2,960 fps. Both are just under ADI/ Hodgdon max but are all that I can easily fit in the case. The cases are R-P which have a bit more capacity than other US cases and a lot more capacity than some continental cases. In my .308 47 grains of AR2206H gave 2,900 fps with the 125 grain TNT, 44 grains gave 2,670 fps with the Hornady 150 grain Interlock and 43 grains gave 2,570 fps with the 165 grain Hornady Interlock. All in my Rem 700 with a 510mm barrel. The .308 loads are 1 to 2 grains under max. My light loads in the .303 are great as well. A very flexible powder.
    Regards Grandpamac.

Yes I use 2206H in my 308. And am currently in the process of working up loads for my 223 using it too.

its very good powder......it CAN even be used in 270w...but has low load density so not ideal.

    What he said.
They are the same powder just different label.
That was from Adi in an email I saw with my own eyes.

Thank you everyone! You've all been a great help! Just getting back into handloading after a 30-ish year hiatus. The only powder experience I have is using IMR4895 in the 303 and H4831 in the 270.

It's interesting to see the variation in load data for the different projectiles. How do you know what set to use when he projectile you're going to use (Sierra 55gr Game King) isn't listed. I guess the bottom projectile looks the closest. The Barnes projectile has a much lower max load! Why would that be?

Longer bearing surface or harder projectile (Barnes are solid copper aren't they?).
