And yes they are solid copper mono bullet.

Another one with the 124 6.5 Hammer last night. A good solid buck with a spindly head.

This at 60 yards. At that range the petals still expanded and broke off and the shank made a hell of a hole. My fingers mark some petal holes.




@dannyb Ive also used the 117 grn in my .270wsm. 3,450 fps wit R19 powder and accurate. And devastating. Ive got a pic somewhere of what one did front on but can't find it. Only reason Im not using them currently in the wsm is that Im using up less spendy bullets but will go back to them for the roar if I use that rifle (xbolt).

@Tahr why do you suppose the Hammer tends to cause so much meat bruising?

or is it simply the velocity at relatively short range?

what sort of cost are we talking here??? $1 per projectile $2 per projectile??? any interest in getting in a few more for others with your next shipment???

Outta curiosity why the 117gn over the 124gn ? Also of interest is that under bullet specs on the hammer website it says the 117gn weight is 118gn ? Now im confused
Hammer suggets their pills expand reliably down to 1800fps which is impressive when you do some calculations but it is also interesting that the ft/lbs of energy at sub 2000fps is quite low comparitively.
What is their maximum effective range on red deer sized targets in your experience ?
Just looking at other options for if I run out of my favoured eldx and I like the fact that you said these hammer projectiles are "always available" although I would have to find a better suited powder as 2225 doesn't seem to be compatible with lighter pills

dannyb......I will see if can find graph mate put up years back with std .270win the 110grn barnes beat the 130-140 -150grn other options hands down on paper till you got out past 300 yards for energy ON PAPER anyway...the extra starting out velocity gives lighter pills huge advantage...and with monos speed is everything,just like steel shot. if monos arent going fast,they dont expand as well...

I really don't know. The maker has written an article about how the shock travels in front of the unexpanded shank and creates the damage.

The blood shock is no worse than some other bullets (e.g.7mm 120 grn NBT) but with these you get fantastic penetration, shock, and damage. It seems.
Ive shot about 20 animals with them and everyone has dropped (but the 60 yards one last evening did run about 20 yards).

Just interesting really. I will be banging on about something else soon. There's a bit of Bunji in all of us I guess

https://www.68forums.com/threads/6-8...ormance.33178/ hopefully this link works...Xman on that forum has done absolute shed loads of projectile testing over the last 10 years....some of the things that come out are surprising to say the least...how one projectile out shines the next in same line up for one...can t find graph right now I was looking for...probably in there somewhere...I know I doughted it so looked it up in manuals and its correct..a 110grn starting out at 3400fps beats a 130 at 2900....for first couple of hundy yards ....

@dannyb I went for 117grn 'cos I fancied getting them to 3,500 fps. I did but the cases didn't like it much - in fact after a couple of firings the cases looked like they had measles. So I throttled right back to 3450. Going by the 124 in the 6.5 I would think that out of the 270wsm at say 3,350 fps the 124 would be devastating.

Ive used a lot of .270 Barnes 127 LRX at good ranges and the Hammers are far quicker killers.

I haven't tried them at "long range" but have shot plenty around the 300 - 350 mark and out to 400-ish maybe. Here's a pic of an exit (124 6.5 prc) at about 340 yards. Hit in the rear lungs on the off side and tipped over dead. Remember too that the petals would have been flying around causing mayhem as well.

Seem to go good in everything. I have tried 52 grn Hammer in .223 for accuracy. Just duplicated my Targex load and it was spot on. Shot higher than the 52 Targex but they do go faster with standard loads. Haven't shot anything with them. Im sure they will be excellent.
