well they are certainly effective.....
Back of the neck at 200. Ouch.
They are the most effective bullet I have ever used but ruin a lot of meat. I’ve got some 64 grn coming for the .223. They were comparatively expensive but with the price hikes on everything else now it’s just the extra freight that makes them a bit more costly to use. An advantage is that they are always available.

@dannyb Ive also used the 117 grn in my .270wsm. 3,450 fps wit R19 powder and accurate. And devastating. Ive got a pic somewhere of what one did front on but can't find it. Only reason Im not using them currently in the wsm is that Im using up less spendy bullets but will go back to them for the roar if I use that rifle (xbolt).
@Tahr why do you suppose the Hammer tends to cause so much meat bruising?
or is it simply the velocity at relatively short range?
what sort of cost are we talking here??? $1 per projectile $2 per projectile??? any interest in getting in a few more for others with your next shipment???

dannyb......I will see if can find graph mate put up years back with std .270win the 110grn barnes beat the 130-140 -150grn other options hands down on paper till you got out past 300 yards for energy ON PAPER anyway...the extra starting out velocity gives lighter pills huge advantage...and with monos speed is everything,just like steel shot. if monos arent going fast,they dont expand as well...

@dannyb I went for 117grn 'cos I fancied getting them to 3,500 fps. I did but the cases didn't like it much - in fact after a couple of firings the cases looked like they had measles. So I throttled right back to 3450. :) Going by the 124 in the 6.5 I would think that out of the 270wsm at say 3,350 fps the 124 would be devastating.Quote:

I haven't tried them at "long range" but have shot plenty around the 300 - 350 mark and out to 400-ish maybe. Here's a pic of an exit (124 6.5 prc) at about 340 yards. Hit in the rear lungs on the off side and tipped over dead. Remember too that the petals would have been flying around causing mayhem as well.

Seem to go good in everything. I have tried 52 grn Hammer in .223 for accuracy. Just duplicated my Targex load and it was spot on. Shot higher than the 52 Targex but they do go faster with standard loads. Haven't shot anything with them. Im sure they will be excellent.Quote:

What I did find with Hammer 124gn HH was a tight 3 shot group. Impressed myself but also it's a new barrel fitted aftermarket by a good gunsmith.
Mostly shooting pests so if it's down and dead it's a good projectile.

I did a bit of nosing and roughly it was say 70 bucks for 200 projectiles but only 80 bucks for 400 on the freight, so worth while putting in a bundle together. I'll buy some 17 cal.

The hammer petals are capitalising on the projectiles energy stored in RPM
Energy that’s not as well utilised in std cup n core projectiles
For years we found better wound channels in 1 in 8 7mm barrels than 1 in 9.25 and it diddnt take long to work out why
With any chambering if you tighten the twist up a notch and if the projectile deforms suitably (or has petals) on impact, you will notice a more suitable wound channel.
RPM does not decay at the same rate as FPS, in fact it hardly decays at all over the external ballistic flight time of a projectile.
