    HELP !!! 308 loads

Hi Guys and Girls, am new to hunting and shooting so please forgive my ignorance. We all have to start somewhere !!

Anyway I am thinking of reloading , I mainly hunt for red Deer.

Im using a 308 Rifle shooting short range to say 0 - 250 meters

Would 150 grain with ballistic tip be a good start. Or would you use 150 grain with soft point tip. ( The reason I say 150 grain is I am presently using 150 grain soft point federal factory ammo , which has done the job so far.)

I know its a bit like asking how long is a piece of string, as ppl will have different views.

    But whats a good load.?

    Thanks in advance.

Mate the 150gr projectiles will be all you need for NZ.

Soft point, Ballistic tip whatever, they will all do the job well when you put them into the boiler room.

Stick with the 150gr projectiles as P38 said they are more than enough for the animals hunted over here choice of projectile brand is up to you. I would try sierra gameking and hornady projectiles to start with plus you can buy sampler packs for load testing from gunworks on trademe that way you can try a whole heap then go for the ones that shoot best in your rifle without having to buy a 100 or 50 count pack just to try a few, if you are going to shoot no further than 250 meters I would not bother with ballistic tips soft point will be sufficient enough for that. As for powder ADI AR2208 works very well in the 308. Also Reloaders in Auckland is a worthwhile place to have a look at for Powder and other components.

A trip to sport ways might be in order so you can have a look and a go on their set up reloading bench, they charge about $5 to use their gear, not sure on how many you can do at a time.

    Interloc I found a good performer in a 150
Or if 250-300y is your max have a look at 130gr barnes ttsx. Yea they are more expensive but still the cheapest part of your hunt.
