    HELP! Primers

    Hi one and all
I primed some 7mm rem mag cartridges a while ago but then let it at that.
Now I'm starting to doubt myself.
I'm not sure if I put magnum or standard primers in.
Wouldn't have thought I cocked up.
Since you should use magnum what's the worst case if I put standard in?
It's a case of risk it or de-prime.
    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers FC

They will still go bang no problems. Probably wont have any noticeable difference. And if you are concerned you can deprime them so long as you do it slowly and wear safety glasses. Never had one go bang while depriming live primers. Or you could just chamber the primed case and fire it with no powder or projectile.

Cheers for that. I'll go with the "No noticeable difference" idea. Especially give the shortages of things ATM.

Thanks. I don't load hot. For me there is no point. Not a bench rest shooter.

I was advised to use LRM primers for 7x57mm and did a full side by side incremental test. The only noticeable difference was with the Magnum primers velocity was slightly slower. Go figure...

I know a lot but it seems less every day...

Due to the exorbitant cost of reloading components, warning shots will not be given.

Hard case all right I use 210 in my saum 215 are about 70gns faster for my load I find the 210 more consistent in my particular recipe the load was build up on 210 though the 215 was an accident so no doubt I could get it as consistent if I developed again

It really depends on the powder you use any of the ADI powders don't need Magnum primers
But the ball powders general benefit from the extra power, also the primer can can vary some standard primers are hotter than others
just load a few rond to test them; the worst that can happen is inconsistent ignition or hang fire.

Only time in many years I've ever experienced a hangfire was with 1942 CAC Berdan primed Cordite spaghetti powered 303B. There was a distinct delay between the primer detonation and the powder firing. After 3 of them and a few fail-to-fires, I pulled the bullets and tossed the rest. Never had it happen with reloads tho. And I've pushed a couple of boundaries...maybe not the right ones.

    Greetings All,
A good time to suggest that we keep decent records of all our handloads. I record date loaded , number, projectile, powder including lot, charge, case, times loaded, primer plus LOA annealing plus some other stuff in a notes field. The loads are boxed with the load data on a slip of paper in the box. This has saved a lot of confusion over the last 40 plus years since I started handloading.
    Regards Grandpamac.

I put one of these in with every box of ammo I load. Also record in a note book.

Are you sure it wasnt just the super slow enfield lock time, compared to a modern rifle every shot with an enfield seems like a hangfire
