Thread: Hodgdon Superformance .270 loads

I have a couple of tins of this powder sitting here and now my Reloder 26 is starting to look a little on the diminished side I thought I might give this stuff a go instead. I have done a search here on the forum and it looks like some of you are having good success with the 145gr eld x and this powder.

Have a Tikka and 130gr ssts and 150gr bergers that I wouldn't mind putting some superformance behind.
Load data appears to be pretty scarce so any info would be awesome!

I think it is probably too fast for top velocities in the .270 which is probably why you don't find much data for it. You can still use it but don't expect magic velocities. I understand that the blend offered in canisters is ideal for the .30-06.

Yip I load it in a couple of .270 one a Sako and the other a Browning.
Bother shoot real well with the only projectiles I have tried which is the 145 ELDX.
I'll check my load book for charge weight and speed but I think it's around 57 grn

It’s likely your better off going to 59g of ADI 2217 as its far more temp stable

Usual disclaimer of work up to this load etc etc

I think @Mooseman has a good load for it in .270? As I recall the velocity and accuracy was exceptional.

Yeah the superformance wouldn't have been my first choice of powder especially seeing as the reloder 26 was working so well. However, I have 1kg of it so if there is an accurate load for either or both the 130s and 150s I might as well use it until something better comes along.

I traditionally used 2213 in the 270, had no issues, always went bang flop. Then about 18 months ago played around with Superformance just to see what could be achieved. In the following loads it shot about 200fps faster than 2213 and was accurate.
59gn, 130 SGK, 3159fps
57gn, 140 SGK, 3005fps
58gn, 140 Interlokt, 3062fps - very accurate and hits like the hammer of Thor!
Knowing the temperature stability issues, I tend to ensure that I use these loads in the colder months, or keep the cartridges away from the heat and sun. But it is an excellent choice for many 270's.

That "something better" is reloder 23

Should go well in the 270. Common load is 57gr behind a 145 eldx.

Yeah no doubt, but not much is available at the moment especially with no postage options.
What does the 23 give you compared to the 26 just out of interest?
