    Hornady 150sst load-30cal

Hey guys wanting to get help with a load for the above projectiles. Have an accurate 165 sierra HPBT/ADI powder load but would like more speed as am only getting around 2600fps currently. Gun is a tikka 308 with a 16.5" barrel and a hardy supp.
    Cheers guys!

Mate I went down exactly the same journey... I'm shooting 150gr SST, 44.5gr 2206h from my 20" barrel plus can. Not quite getting a complete burn but close to it and under MOA. Rem700. 2690-2700fps. Not super fast but a good balanced load that is hitting gongs out to 600.

Remember too that you've accepted some velocity loss with a shorter barrel.

What makes you say you are not getting a complete burn @Feral

I ran the load thru quikshot a while back. I forget the specifics but recall it wasn't a full burn.

So no powder left in the case though? Or did it roll out the end?

Easiest way is to shoot it in the dark, if you see flames etc then its not a complete burn.

Yeah am aware of loss of speed but know of people getting 2900-3000fps with 125gr loads and 16" barrels so figured i could get a 150 with a good BC up around 2700-2800fps conaidering factory for those loads get 3000fps out of a 24" barrel in a 308.
Know it is not just about speed and am happy with my load for bush hunting but would be nice to crank something down the barrel that will give me a bit more oomph at range.

I shoot the same 150 grain SST projectile out of a 19" Tikka and get about 2700 max using 2208. 2600 with a 16.5" barrel sounds about right.

I had some over cooked hand loads with 125 grain noslers doing about 2900 so about right. I'ts a 20% increase in bullet weight from the 125 to the 150 so a lot more pressure.

Blowing your face off for a few extra fps is just not worth it.

Out of 24in bbl pushing 150ssts with 2208 was getting 2920 fps. ADI says max 2950.
16 in bbl u could get 2600 - 2700. I’m always a bit wary of warp speeds quoted by some people - they must have “optimistic “ chronys

I get 2650 with 165 BT out of 16, used to get 2700 with 17 inches. 44.5 of 2206H, safe af and validated at ranges not chronied.

Im sure the powder Hornady use with the super perforance ammo is pretty high tech compared to general powder. There stated speed in 150sst sp factory is 3000 fps in 24 inch. In my 24 inch 308 it was going 2995fps so was pretty much stated. Out of a 16.5 inch you going to lose at least 225 fps from a 24 so getting around 2700 out of a 16 is about right

sweet as will most likely stick to my sierras then and maybe a LR rifle is in the mix. Had a sika stag and hind on a slip a few days back at just over 500m and felt very undergunned even with my strelok app giving me an aim point and telling me i would be holding more than enough energy at that range. Maybe a scope with slightly more mag would help...running a 2.5-8 haha

I used ADI 2208, 45g, Lapua and federal for circa 2650fps with the 150 SST was very accurate..then I realized I shoot most of my deer under 20m so just use 165 Speers now going fast enough to break necks.
