Question Hornady 62 gr 223 proj not grouping

After settling on a powder node these things dont want to group - normally within a range of 10 different seating depths, Id have a one or two nodes - not this lot! Started 30thou off jam, then worked back to be 60thou off jam to still scatter proj all over the show.
I use 2207 so not to end up with compressed loads ( looking at you 2208) and increment depths at 3 thou a time. perhaps these just like a jump...! the SP versions in 62gr will alaso be of interest to test... the 60 gr Vmax are sweet shooters....

Anyone else had issue with these?

I've never had any luck with 62s, bought a bunch of Belmont 62 (Hornady I think) ammo and it wasn't that good either.

Hornady 60g varmint flat base for me not so good, 60g V max shoot fine, the lucky thing Hornady 55btsp with canalure shoot well, it's a 1/9 twist Savage.

weirdly the hornady 60grn flat base were considered one of the few projectiles that a 1;14 will stabilise.....I ASSUMED this was the case so have loaded up a few...might need to confirm on paper....

I shoot 62gn in my Ruger Ranch II, 1:8 twist, 16 in barrel, suppressed. Best groups I've found are up around max load or just under, around 2650 to 2750fps. Powders I've trialed are, 2208 (excellent at 0.5 gn under max so light compression), Ar22065, BM2 (also good group.) The Hornady 62gn SP has been my goto and started with them in Belmont ammo with excellent results. Might just suit my rifle. It also likes 69gn Sierra MK.

I forgot to mention, I load to fit my magazine. Never got into the 1 thou, 2 thou, 3 thou biz - if it fits in my mag, just, it shoots fine. Other rifles will be diff of course, nothing particularly special about a Ruger Ranch, just does a decent hunting job.

There are a whole bunch of powders between 2207 and 2208 which you could try which aren't gonna be compressed and aren't so unnecessarily fast burning. BM2, 8208, 2206H, H335 etc...

Not every barrel is gonna shoot every projectile amazingly with every powder (or at all). They're bulk grade FMJ's (not Bergers) and I'm guessing you're using a basic off the shelf hunting rifle rather than a custom 25+lb F-class rig.

Quit doing the 3 thou at a time seating depth tests. Load up 15-20 somewhere safely below max with a decent bit of jump with a more suitable powder and shoot a bigger group. That'll give you a better idea of how they're performing. I would have fairly low expectations.

Belmont have used the hornady 62 gr sp and speer gold dot interchangeably and both were moa for me. Try loading them to Sammi std seating depth. Just out of curiosity what sort of spread is all over the show

I've found the 62 and 55 shoot well in all the rifles I've loaded them in most use 2206. 25.4 to 25.6grn seating doesn't seem to mater with these most are either 20thou off the lands or mag length depends on the rifle.

The 62gr SPTB Hornadys shoot okish in my 1:8 18" Tikka.
I'm getting 3000fps with BM2 and 1moa ish groups (maybe a little smaller but not much).

For the price, the BC and the speed I am getting they are good enough IMO.
