    Hornady projectiles and ADI powder

    Hi all,
Can someone tell me if the Hornady Reloading Manual has data for ADI powders?
And does it have any data for the new 6mm 103gr eld-x projectile? I had a box arrive this morning, keen to see if they shoot as well as the 178gr in my 308.

I use mainly Hornady and Sierra projectiles, and will buy a copy of the manual if it has the powders (and projectiles) I use. Loading 223, 243, 30-30 and 308 with AR2208 and 2209.

    Cheers!

The loads are likely there but for the Hodgon labelled powders (the Murican market doesn't get ADI powders).

AR2208 is called Varget. AR2209 is called H4350.

    Hope this is helpful

I don't think the 103 gr 6mm eld x load data is in the 10 th Edition of the Hornady.

I was right the 10th edition doesn't have the 103 ELD X 6mm listed it has the 105 and 108 gr ELD match. Lucky Flyblown found it on line.

Data is for the 6mm Creedmoor though, not the 243 Winchester data that I am after.

The Hodgdon data is identical to the ADI data, so I'll stick to using the ADI and Sierra data for similar bullet weights as a starting point, and wait for the next edition of the Hornady manual.

    Thanks everyone for your help

Sorry Cigar, I had one of those moments when you read something that simply isn’t there... I could have sworn there was a Creedmoor in the mix somewhere!

Out of interest, what twist rate have you got on your .243? Must be an 8”?

Reason I asked the question above was I got in touch with Hornady about ELD-X asking for bullet and tip lengths, for stability calcs. This is what they said... I’ve always found Hornady to be very responsive unlike a lot of the American companies.

Thanks for writing in. The lengths you requested are below. For the 103gr ELD-X bullet we recommend going with a 1:8” twist or faster. For the 7mm’s – it depends on which bullet you want to shoot. For the 150gr ELD-X we recommend atleast a 1:9.5”, for the 162gr ELD-X we recommend a 1:9” and for the 175gr ELD-X we recommend anything faster than a 1:9”. Thanks again,

    103 ELD-X: OAL: 1.258” nominal

    150gr ELD-X: OAL: 1.402” nominal

    162gr ELD-X: OAL: 1.480” nominal

    175gr ELD-X: OAL: 1.575” nominal

All bullet tip lengths are nominal at .175”

No, rifle is a Brno so should be a 10" twist, so I am aware the 103s may not stabilise. The Sierra 100s have been okay, and my 308 likes the eld-x, so I'm keen to give the 103 eld-x a try.

Cigar, I’m 99% sure they won’t stabilise. The 1% is just insurance.

If you haven’t broken the box open, maybe you could hold off a while...

The pills are way too long to stabilise in the 1:10”. They are over 0.2” longer than the ProHunter. When Hornady first intro’d them they didn’t put the max twist rate on the website like Sierra does (still not there) and a lot of blokes bought them with standard 1:10”s and then wrote 1 star reviews on the Midway etc websites.

Neither of the 1:10” twist .243s I’ve got here would stabilise the 105gr A-Max and that was shorter than the 103gr ELD-X.

So yeah don’t get yer hopes up mate, sorry to be so negative. Take a read of the American forums, lots of sad stories there. The Remington 700 guys with their 1:9.125” barrels couldn’t deal with the 6mm ELD-X.

I like Hornady but they are a bit slack not producting bullet lengths in their specs, or max twist rates.
