Hornady subsonic projectiles and ammunition

I had a notification of Hornadys new products this afternoon.
They are doing 30-30, 450 bushmaster and 45/70 subsonic ammunition, and class it as suitable for deer sized game.
And the 190gr 308 Sub-X projectile they have been using in 300 blackout ammunition will be available for reloading (though in the video they don't recommend using it in a 1:12 twist with a suppressor, unless you want your suppressor remodeled!).

In the video they said the sub projectile doesn't slow much, and something like a mv of 1050 it would still be doing 8-900fps several hundred yards downrange? I need to consult Dr Google on that one!

I wouldn’t mind giving them a go i the blackout. I haven’t seen any in the shops yet.

Subs don't slow down much as they head downrange. That's true for pretty much all of them, not just the hornady's, unless they literally have the BC of a paper plate.

The faster an object moves, the more air resistance it meets and at sub speeds, there's comparitively little.

Yeah, I had a play with Strelok, assuming a BC of 0.2 subs would still doing 800fps at 350m, waaaaaay past the distance I'd be shooting subs at!

Any info on recommended twist rate
for those .30cal 190gr SubX bullets?

They stabilise in my 1 in 8 twist whisper.
The 180 gr hornady round nose were stable and very accurate in my 1 in 10 at sub speed. Till I put my hand on some to try I can t say much more.

In the video they reckoned 1:10 was okay and probably 1:11, but 1:12 try without a suppressor first.

I can only assume why they only sold the 190gr subx in 300blk as loaded ammo first.

Greater margins in the loaded and they needed to increase production of the projectiles. Use the higher margins to expand production and increase economies of scale.
Tesla does the same with its cars. Takes deposits across the range. But for the first 6-12months they will only deliver the cars with the most options. Options have way higher margins than base model cars.

If you shoot long range .22 using subs you already have a drop chart that will work with larger cals. Super high bc projectiles have no advantage over a round nosed lump of lead below the speed of sound.
