How much do YOU save? (9mm)

So as I've started the fun part of my probationary period, I've come to realise that the 1000 rounds of Winchester whitebox is not going to last long at all to my surprise *cough* missus *cough*

I have access to reloading tools so I wouldn't have to buy my own (yet) and with the Internet giving us free reign over where we can source our supplies I can buy all the extras.

The thing is though, it doesn't actually seem like there's that much savings to be had unless you buy in MASSIVE bulk? Is the whole ideology of reloading being cheaper deriving from American prices of supplies and .30 cal+ centerfires here in NZ? Or is it just a thing here because you can tailor your rounds to your own needs?

Considering you can get bulk 9mm ammo for $400/1000 (40c round) how much can you drop the price to by reloading in your own experiences? 30c a round? 20c?

    Cheers
    Macca

If you cast your own bullets and buy your primers 10k at a time and buy powder 2kgs at a time you will save. Some clubs arrange "bulk Buys" for members often at really good savings( at least both my clubs did).

    @Macca

Here's my 9mm reloaded recipe not counting the initial cost of the brass, reloading equipment, brass cleaning and preparation or my time.

124gr RN plated projectiles $180/1000 or 18c each
5.2gr Belomnt Action Pistol $65/500gms or 5.6c per round
Federal small pistol primers $80/1000 or 8c each

    18 + 5.6 + 8 = 31.6c / round.

    Cheers

I'm doing it for 24 cents a round, not including brass.
Could do it a bit cheaper by using a cheaper powder (I use vit n320 - clean burning, so don't have to clean so often.... )

Rusa 124gn fp projectiles, n320 (4 gns), cci or fiocchi primers, and a mix of brass. Dillon 650 press with carbide dies.

Downloaded a bit from factory, so easier/quicker to shoot.

I'm finding that I'm having a issue with time though, so may buy a few thousand factory to keep me shooting.... (prob geco)

If you can source some lead cheaply and can cast safely, plus buy primers/powder in bulk then 9mm costs the same as good .22

My current stock of 9mm cost me under 20c a round excluding brass

Pretty sure freight is free to an urban address. If you get the projectiles on an indent order they are cheaper again. I think the last ones were $121/1000 delivered.

This interests me but I don't know where I am going with it as I am never going to have the time nor patience to reload.

This is my current costing for reloading 9mm ....
I usually try buy x5000 projectiles/primers at a time .. as is what i can generally afford (would get cheaper if buying more in bulk/indent order as mentioned)
    Components ....
    Winchester Primers
    124g RN Rusa Projectiles
    TiteGroup
Once Fired Brass $7kg (buying in 5 - 10kg lots)
I find its a good money saver .allowing me to shoot more ... I also find the reloading process to be relaxing and just some "Me" time(keep it clean lads lol)locked away in my own wee reloading zone...

First shot costs me 0.30 cents a round (Cost includes the case).
Second shot costs 0.22 cents a round.
Rusa CMJ projectiles. (Buy 5-10K at a time on indent as its cheaper again at around $121 per K delivered.)
CCI small rifle primers (Buy 20K at a time at around at around $50-60 per K).
Powder (What ever is cheap. Buy 10kg at a time).

Loaded on a dillon 650 with a case and bullet feeder.
I can load 1200 rounds an hour with ease.

And............................................... . what no one has mentioned is actually you don't really save anything at all in fact often you spend more because you shoot more since you now have saved money reloading.

I don't buy anything in bulk so no savings made on projectiles or primers bought at ~2000 a time.

I dont count the cost of the brass as I kept the winchester I had before I started reloading ~2000 of them and over the course of a year it has gone to ~4000 just by picking up what others are not. So brass is free, if you shoot 9mm.

Rusa @$136 delivered. I have shot about 3000 of the x-treme hollow points which are a lot more expensive and dont notice any difference on the scoreboard for IPSC.
    Primers $75/1000 and 3c for 4gn powder.

~24c, not quite half the price of winchester but close enough.

It's not just the cost, it's the lighter load, lesser recoil and the chance to tune to your pistol for a tighter group.
