An old reloader said to me the trick was the toilet seat. The projectile gets a nice seat on the powder. If you sit your "...." off the seat it is cold and chilly. Much like kissing. Nicer to have your lips on her , rather than peckering in the breeze with your neck out. He was not a fan of a droopy projectile. His other view was that in modern parlance there was no turbo lag with the powder launching off the projectile. He was a triple deuce king. Each to their own.

From memory my old load that I use to pay to have loaded for me in christchuch(ex ballengers hnf guy Jason Adamson moved to Ashburton any one know if he’s still around?)many moons ago was 2372fps with a 180sst and a 16” tikka .308 presumably 2208 so I’d say your about spot on with that adi data mate

The case is pretty empty but iv got flat primers and accuracy and more importantly powder and projectiles to suit this load

I learnt today that the 63grn load for my triple duce needs to be seated deeper.......hmm why wont round eject,then case came out leaving projectile in rifling and powder all over the show...just aswell the pack was already fill with venison.

Is that the first time it’s happened? It happened to me about 6 weeks ago in the .223 after about 30 rounds for the morning never happened before and I’m not jammed think their must have being abit of crud in their that grabbed the projectile . Iv also had it happen a couple of years ago with a 6.5saum was getting a false feel for the lands and it just wouldn’t shoot turns out I was jumping 120 thou I got a comparator and measured a round that came with the rifle that was seated at 20 thou and instantly problem solved very frustrating powder waisting load development that was

first time yes...may have just had that round seated slightly further out...will measure up the other dozen of them I have loaded.

Can send you down some 60gr Hornady bullets that load for the triple deuce. Dont know why but it seems the perfect load for Vixens. All 3 using that brew apparently just slay the deer. Seated deep.

hmmm think I have some on the shelf...might have to try them.

Have you had an opportunity to go back to the range and repeat both these three shot groups with exactly the same ogive to case head length? How about two three-shot groups at each length, twelve shots in all, and put up the pics here. If you PM me an account I'll reimburse you the $30 for the consumables.

Hey @Puffin iv given the rifle back so it’ll take me some time to do that I shot the 15x 2.810 5 lots of three at different powder chargers then picked a happy medium in the ladder and loaded 2.800 2.805 2.820 and 2.830 I shot the 2.800 first for the tight group up top and bumped the remainders back to 2.800 to save the primers

So how far off jamb was the winning depth? I'm guessing .o4 or 5"?

@Kelton you are onto it. Just about finding the sweet spot in your rifle !

@T.FOYE I’m unsure as only worked with in the mag lengths mate @Nathan F spot on mate

The results speak for themselves although I'll be testing the indicated depth with a couple of 10 shot groups. it also pays to observe the shift in point of impact, a stable POI also indicates the node.
