Thread: Importing reloading dies

I'm looking at having to import some dies for a 375 Winchester

Yes I know that you don't ( shouldn't ) need an import permit for dies because they are not a firearms part.

But in reality how has it been working out for any of you guy who have made recent imports of reloading dies ?

I had a chamber reamer brought in recently and I have applied for a permit just in case.
Police declined the permit as no permit was required.
So nice to have that email on file

Yeah, same deal for me for dies as for your reamer. Applied and "refused" so letter stored away in case of shite. 2 sets so far and no shite. Poor buggers why can't they just say "declined". My email from them had "declined" in the header visible before I opened the full email. I went ballistic when I saw "declined" but calmed down when I read the full message

However, this subject was the topic of a thread a recently and some forum members did get permits for dies so go figure.

All I can suggest is do the same as for your reamer - ie flick off a permit application.
I only did one but obviously could have presented the "refusal" for either of the sets I got. Whether a "refusal" letter cuts the mustard I cannot answer except to say the old left hand right hand etc etc. Police Customs.

The only thing I haven't done is purchase anything since Dec 1st so don't know how the new gst rules are panning out.

Yes @zimmer like you my blood pressure spiked when I saw the email header and thought it was for the other 5 pages of items also.
It took me a while to re read it and realise its just police speak for "no problems, not needed and have a nice day "

As the "new gst rules" can only work by the overseas sender agreeing ( i.e. being bullied ) to add GST and then forward that to NZ Govt, then I don't think it will affect most small sellers and doubt even if too many of the larger ones "will play ball".

There was no mention anywhere in my 3 December purchase from AliExpress purchase of NZ GST.

I suspect, being as inscrutable as an Asiatic can be, they just told the fat boy, "Piss off hairy legs."

IMHO, the only way blocks on incoming goods which have not had NZ GST charged by the overseas sellers can be detected is for Customs to scan every incoming article. Seeing how they are soooooooo far behind just looking for "GUN THINGIES", I supsect they would spit the dummy if the Fat Boy required them to check for GST payments as well.

If so I suspect at least a 12 month delay on every article coming into NZ.

Rereading my posting I see I got my declined and refused liberally mixed up but you understood having been dealt with in the same way.

@Kiwi Sapper I doubt the boutique die sellers that I buy off would sell 60k into NZ per year so doubt they have been required to register with our tax grabbers. Means we are good to go better than b4 and won't get hit until $1001 and greater.

The bigger sellers like Brownells could probably hit the 60k.

Even if gst is added it won't stop me buying offshore as most of the stuff I want ain't here in NZ.

Ummmmmm. @zimmer Don't forget the "movable" NZ$400 ceiling limit after which gst had to be paid by us to have our goodies released by HM Customs. I am SURE that still remains and the "ceiling" will surely be lowered in the future.....That's if Cinders will allow us a future before she and her collection of finger painting and play doh acolyte ministers get turfed back to the dole queue next year.

Just received a die from Brownell's breezed through, I did not apply for an import permit and N Z Post delivered it as it is not a firearm part.

It was opened by customs and a wee note saying they did so and nothing was removed and taped up with customs tape.

No dramas this time and no GST.

Has there been a large price increase in die sets, notice with overseas companies that sell on T/M, big increases.

That's good to know, thought I couldn't use Brownells. Presume that was paid from a NZ bank card?

Not a die but made purchases late December through Bangood and got charged GST at the source when hitting the buy button.

A+ service from these guys. A good family business.
Their specialty used to be Lee but they carry some of the other brands nowadays.

Appreciate the info guys. I just scrolled through titan reloading and they don't seem to have the 30-30 dies I'm after. If Brownells is shipping to NZ that may be the best option, they have the dies I'm after. Although, Brownells USA or Australia? @xtightg
