The largest stash of factory ammo you ever bought

What's the largest amount of factory ammo you bought at once?

For me, 1k of PMC bronze 9mm, when I bought a CZ 75. No big deal.

I have heard of more interesting stashes. One guy who was really wealthy told me he went into a syndicate which bought CAC out of the last of their .22 supplies when they were winding up. If memory serves, it was somewhere between 100-250k rounds.

I listened to that fact with my mouth flapping open and closed. Finally intelligent noises came out in the form of a question:

"What did you shoot with it?" I asked.

His answer was simple, direct ,and profound.

    "Everything".

His older brother managed to be in the right place at the right time to score a batch of surplus NZ Army 7.62x51 ex Singapore stocks being flogged off.

I asked him how much, and he had no idea of numbers, but gestured the dimensions of what he'd bought, and from memory, it was about a cubic metre.

Impressive, but it will tie him to owning and using a 308 for the rest of his natural life, seeing he intends to keep it all.

30 slabs of 12 gauge on one occasion and 4000 rnds of 22 on two occasions.
It might not count but I had 15,000 223 projectiles at one time as well. Got rid of the lot one way or another.

Yeah I’m pretty keen to tag along on the next trip to visit your mate.

I bought the entire South Island stock of .303 ammo (233,000 rounds) from the NZ Army in 1989. I sold it all (apart from 4 cases I kept for my own toys) in less than a year. It was all CAC 1954 bandolier packed, clean and surefire.

The Army saw him coming the reason they sold it was it was total crap, a friend scored some of it best group he got from it in a Sako 75 was 8" at 100 metres,
best story I heard was a group of shooters in the US bought 1 million primers took a year to swing the deal, next time there is a primer shortage you'll know why

When I first got into shooting at age 16 I bought a box of 50 rounds for my 22 magnum and headed over to Cromwell for my first real rabbit shoot, I went to climb over the first fence and the whole hill started moving so I dropped to my knees and fired off every round I had and ended up with 2 rabbits. I went back soon after loaded up with a few hundred rounds of shotgun ammo and 1000 rounds of 22 magnum and castled over 600 rabbits in a day, sometimes you just can't get enough ammo.
