Not sure how many casters are out there but feel free to drop any tips you feel have really helped.
Was making my 2nd ever batch of bulk mix using linotype and pure lead. Getting the hang of what ratio makes up an end result of 13BHN (which sizes and shoots great).
Wondering if there's a better method of measuring hardness than the Lee pen scope thingo?ŕAttachment 251241

It's about the easiest if you are after a quantifiable number. However taking a bullet from a previous batch and putting it nose to nose in a vice with a new one winding the vice up and comparing the compression works too. Also if your source of base metals is consistent topping the pot up by weight is simplest.

I'm trying the pencil test. It takes a little bit of practice but is low cost and sort of consistent within the brand I'm using, Staedtler (which was the only brand I could find). Here is a bit of info about the process: https://forum.castbulletassoc.org/th...awing-pencils/

I made one of these.
Certainly not difficult.
If nothing else a very good guide.
