    load data: 3006 / Superformance / 178 ELDX

    Morning all,

Does anyone have any reloading experience with 3006, using Superformance powder with Hornady 178 ELDX.

Hogdgon online load data quotes 2 very different load min/max for 180gr Nosler E-tip and Sierra SBT respectively. a little variation is to be expected, but 5-7gr difference for max and min loads is concerning.

    any assistance would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Greetings,
I would ignore the data for the Nosler projectile as the ELDX is much more like the Sierra projectiles, the 175 and 180 grains. People tend to forget that projectile construction has a large effect on pressure and velocity.

If you have no joy with Superperformance, 2209 is magic dust in the .30/06.

Work up from 55 to 57 gns behind a cup and core 180 gn pill for 2800 to 2850 fps -24 inch tube. W
RP / WW brass, fed primers

Yeah, I agree.. I initially looked at using 2209, but i only have 3 containers left of it. Whereas I have a heap more superformance.

might as well use what I have the most of.

Sounds like you have enuf 2209 to load around 400 rounds ! Thats plenty.
57 grs behind any 178-180gr non mono bullet and you are sorted.

FYI 57 is 1 gram to hot in one of my 06’s.

Agree, use your SP up if it works in the 06. Very hard to get powders other than adi here now so going down the same route.

Sorry Dicko to call you out for fat fingers or old eyes but we dont load rifle ammo in grams.
I stand by my 57 GRAINS of 2209 as the standard load for the 30/06. This is the best load in 3 guns i load for and im sure is about the ADI data .5 of a grain less than max.
2800fps from 22" barrel and .3-.75 moa with any good bullet . How good is it we are still discussing how to load for a cartridge 118 years old and is still one of the most useful

Correct, guilty to both declining eye sight and fat fingers!

Yes with modern pills, better powders and probably barrels also, the old 06 is a beautiful thing. I like 165 as lighter lighter load. Noslers’ BT’s and AB’s on 58.5 grains for 2930 fps.

My load I use in my 30 06 is 58 grs of SF with the 178 gr ELDX, average velocity in my 20 inch Ruger American is 2711 fps. I could load a little higher but SF being temperature sensitive keeps things a bit safer especially on those hot days.
