Loading 162 ELDX vs ELDM ?

Have mostly used 162 AMAX or ELDMs in 284 & SAUM up till now. Thinking I might try the 162 ELDX as more of an all round load in my 18in 284. Any experience out there in loads & differences ELDX vs ELDMs ? Probably run a 20 or 30 thou jump. Are the ELDXs likely to hit pressure sooner ?

Have heard the eldx produce pressure sooner than the match version. From an 18” 284 I’d personally stick with the match line

Yes iv found them to hit pressure quiker but their building of pressure/speed faster is a none issue if you work up I prefer the m myself be darn nice if they made a lighter one so I could use it in the 708 . Iv found the x better once’s it’s slowed down abit from mv in magnums so it could be darn good in a short .284 if you drive it at humble speeds

Trying to understand your logic Kelton of a M being preferable at higher magnum velocities?

The x vary in weight alot more than the m, but I suppose thats to be expected from a match projectile

The X will hit pressure sooner. If you put them side by side with an M you can see how much more surface area they have. When I had my 284 I would hit pressure with the X but was fine at the same load with the M and could go higher.

The 162gr eld-m work find in the tikka7mm08 with a long action bolt stop and magazine. Taken numerous goats and fallow from 10meters out to 600meters with my old one

There is something about the 162x.

My experience mirrors Kelton however I was shooting them slow at 2500fps.

Never had a 1 shot kill from 100-400m. I put 3 into a spikers shoulder because he wouldn't drop. All rounds were centre shoulder.

Shot another spiker at 100 that didn't even react, thought I missed then it drt with a second.

Walked over to a hind that ran 10m and seemed to drop only to find her alive and needed to be headshot. That was the final straw to switch to eldm and the results were day and night.

I've never needed a followup with eldms on maybe 20 deer/tahr.

I am puzzled as to why they perform so poorly. The eldx was very very accurate in my rifle and was consistent shooting past 1k so it was a shame.

It could be me, shot placement etc however I have no confidence in them now and a completely different experience after ditching them.

Should have being clearer sorry pencil threw out of 7blaser mag and 300win mag all long barrels moving very quickly they all also contributed to some of my more impressive kills at longer ranges the most memorable being the 175 at 800odd yards big red was like someone had thrown buckets of blood down the hill

I find them pretty explosive in the .270 run hard with R26, but any powder would do the same. Lighter game too (fallow).
However my mate has had them 212’s not open on fallow buck from a wsm at range.

I did try the 178eldx in my old .308 but I didn’t find an accurate load for them so never took an animal id say at .308 speeds it would be a good combo
