I find them pretty explosive in the .270 run hard with R26, but any powder would do the same. Lighter game too (fallow).
However my mate has had them 212’s not open on fallow buck from a wsm at range.

I used eldx in a 270wsm and had very ordinary results with them, fragmentation and poor penetration. Now using a 162g eldm out of a 708 with great results. Pretty slow at 2520fps but very accurate with good penetration.
Interesting, this is the opposite experience of @Kelton above (pencilling through).
Really interesting that various large magnums are so ineffective at killing deer with premium hunting bullets

Or the premium hunting bullets in some sizes are not as reliable as others had no issues with any of those magnums with Berger bullets or eldm
I have the 162g ELDM going 2600 fps from a short 7mm08. How does the 162 ELDM go at roaring-in-stags ranges? Say 10 - 30 metres?
I wouldn’t think an eldx is premium hunting bullet. More a dog turd wrapped in copper.
I love the ELDM and wasn’t a big fan of ELDX.
Hornady don’t recommend ELDM for hunting and if you want to know the reason, go to the 43:40 mark of the second to latest podcast. They explain why. Mainly around how the tip is connected or lack there of to the internal lead under the jacket.

It's kinda funny cos
1. ELDMs work great, and
2. They sell them as having good terminal performance in their LE ammo https://www.hornadyle.com/rifle-ammu...p-precision#!/
Sounds like the ELDX out of magnum cals is less reliable than the ELDM from a .223, maybe they ought to market that combo instead
Hey how about an Eldm out of a ‘big magnum’ that would be even better.
Most everyone went from the Amax to the eld M in their magnums
