Thread: Loading 162 ELDX vs ELDM ?

Some of us are still running the AMAX !! And they work like they always did.

I think it is a bullet by bullet proposition. I find the 145gn X in the .270W very explosive, core exits, shrapnel cuts through the lungs, heart from chest shots. Emphatic killers.
The 178 Eldx .308 cal have a following with .308, 30/06 users, so must be working at sub magnum velocities. I've loaded some in the 06 for this winter's hunting.

Love the 162 ELDM 3000fps in 280AI. In the 6.5PRC 143ELDX shoots very well at 3130fps but only one horse of a hind at 400y with a quick shot high on the shoulder - dropped in 10m. 168gn Amax in 308 at 2650fps lots of bang flops.

I prefer the ELDM overall.

If your rifle can take the 180ELDM, don't bother with anything else.

Hornady don’t recommend ELDM for hunting and if you want to know the reason, go to the 43:40 mark of the second to latest podcast. They explain why. Mainly around how the tip is connected or lack there of to the internal lead under the jacket.

They didn’t recommend the amax either but was the go to for long range

Not agreeing with them. Was just showing the reason why they don’t recommend
