Longer range projectile for Tikka 22-250?

    Hi All

Have a Vortex Viper 4-16 going spare so am going to strap it to the 22-250.

Does anyone have any recommendations for projectiles that are working well for them?

    Thinking maybe the 50grain V-Max?

Mostly to be used for nailing peacocks as far away as it will shoot.

Will be shooting the odd deer with it too but usually head or neck shoot fallow when I'm using this rifle so any projectile should be fine for that.

    Just want something super accurate.

    Cheers

    Mike

what twist you got 1:14? if so then that's all you will be able to go to in theory weight wise. If 1:12 check out the 53gr Vmax/amax

    55 V-max has a better BC.

    53 Amax is even better.

if you have the t3 varmint I use the 52 amax that's very accurate when combined with the vx3 8x25x50 LR varmint reticle.

I used the 50g v-max flat base in my 1:14 22-250. It didnt like the 53gr.
Another bullets I never got to try was the 55Gr gamekings I got told they shoot well in 1:14 twist as they are a bit shorter than V-max and do better on larger game. Sold the 22-250 before I tried them.

I'm using the 55gr V-Max/Z-Max in my Tikka 22-250 with good effect on rabbits out to 300m using the Vortex 6-24. Only problem is they have stopped making the 55gr for some reason??? Will be needing a new projectile once I have run through the current batch of reloads.

How do you get that much in a 223 case? Even with a drop tube 27 is to the top in my ppu brass.

Yep its Lapua, FL sized it's compressed. Necked sized would certainly be a big help.

And only partial neck sized at that, leave the last 10% of the neck unsized so it aligns perfectly in the chanber neck.

Only neck size myself but will try doing a bit less, have some other brass too so will do a volume test that could be interesting.

53gr VMAX is awesome in the 22-250, shot rabbits out to 530y and goats to 300y with mine. A very economical projectile to run.
