    Low recoil 7mm SAUM load?

With consideration I am still thinking of selling my 260rem to contribute towards more toys (thermal).

It's been a great rifle with low recoil which has been great for the wife. The reality is that I have my 308 for the bush work and 7mm SAUM for open country so the 260 probably won't get used if i keep it, so looking for ideas on a low recoil load for the 7mm, shooting will be under 400 probably less.

Any ideas? Thinking the likes of a 140grn Ballistic tip.

    Cheers

    A 140g NBT pushed along with 2217

If you use 2900fps you will still have 1000ftlbs at 630 yards.

Roughly what I was thinking.. speed won't be an issue at all as it wont be used at extended ranges. I don't have 2217 on hand just rl26, 23 and superformance. But could defintely try track some down.

RL23 is pretty close to 2217 in burn rate, probably a wee bit faster. You could go to a lighter 7mm pill like 130gn Speer HC or 120gn Barnes

A limbsaver recoil pad at one end and a DPT muzzle break on the end of my can has tamed my 7saum recoil big time.

Unsure mate, I hadn't even thought about game kings. Will look into them.

I tried some RL 23 last week behind the 162s for a test and 59.5g pushed them along at 2839 fps but still a fair amount of recoil. I'm happy with the recoil but want the wife to also be able to shoot at times. So need to try one of these lighter projectiles and maybe back the charge off a little.

So your effectively turning it into 7mm/08??? Look at what powders you have, pick soft lighter projectiles and use starting load....should not be far off your desired end result.

Theirs a fair amount of technique to shooting that stock to mate I’m unsure how you shoot but I found with advice from another mate with the same stock again a lightweight saum that holding the foreend for dear life with the lead hand helps a lot both in shooting more accurately and felt recoil while a lot of people probably shoot holding the foreend I never did and that change in technique that’s now habit helped a lot. I think the 140 game king would likely be a very good choice I shot 150 lrab and 150eldx threw my new barrel last week just to get the round count up and their was a decent reduction in recoil from the 160-180s I fired the same day

I’m very biased to the game king all admit iv just had such a good run with them over the years in .308 and various .223s I think they would do the job nicely out to 400

Sierra do a 140 and a 150 tipped gameking oddly website says both have a bc of .545 you should be able to get them moving out of a saum.

I have some 165 TGK get 2800 from memory from a 20” barrel they shoot well. A big projectile looks the same size as a 180 elbm when placed side by side. Thicker copper jacket I reckon.

139interlok would be another cheaper option again I had a lot of success with the 129 6.5 variant

The 120nbt going 2500fps mv hammers out at 400.
    This was in a 708

Why not load the .308 with 140gr or even 130gr? Do the same job I would have thought, and probably easier than downloading the SAUM? I dunno, I just don't see the point of having a short mag then hobbling it.
