    Gas checks

Hi have you considered to use 25 cal gas checks on your slug gun lead projectiles

    I have shot the 36 grain H&N slugs and got a 50mm 30m group

Then I powder coated them to bump them up 2 thou and it did improve the group size
But still not as good a group as the Lyman 65 grain gas checks

So I have been waiting for the Lyman 257420 mould to arrive but first they sent the wrong mould 457420
Then when they went to re send they had sold the correct one to someone else
    Now who knows what's happening

@AR7 I made a top punch yesterday to fit the gas checks in my lube sized and now that I don't have a mould I will try on the slugs

Amazing. An old Stevens .25 single shot was the first rifle I ever fired and I was hooked. The owner had a Tararua stag mounted in his home that he had shot with it. 63 years ago. I'm guessing it was a rim fire? Was there a centre fire version of the caliber?

Sad news on the loss of the mould
do you use or have you tried Le Alox to treat you soft lead slug gun pellets from leading up your barrel
might be fine if flinging them @ subsonic speeds
the barrel i am using for the 25 acp carbine single shot feels tighter in the bore compared to the 25-20W barrel
so i am hoping that the 4 grain slugs will fly true ..

Now that i figured out how to do photos
this shot is of a 25-20W // 410 insert i machined up to test the old left over barrel and chamber that was cut off
i will make another but twice the length to use 25 acp ammo via a 410 single shot
There is still 16 inches of the 25 cal. barrel that will be turned into a 25 ACP [plus ]chamber
custom brass made from 22 Hornet .I am still working out the length of this new brass
    cheers

    Hi Guys
my has time just flew along I have just reshaped 100 22 Hornet cases to "25 Long"
Kept the Hornet head for extraction and trimmed the total length to 30mm
Barrel is all done to 16 inches and fitted to a Rossi Monty 410 host THANKS to FSS
Now comes the fun part finding food to feed her i have an assortment of light weight .257 x 60 - 80 grain projectiles and some 44grain lead projectiles
Just wondering how Akaroa 1 is getting along with his 25 rimfire reloading .. Cheers

very interesting. So there is a blank round inserted into the hornet brass? Do you leave the powder in it and crimped and put the trail boss in on top of it or have you opened the end of the blank up?

Yes the acorn blank just goes in as is.
It's just a primer of sorts

Excellent presentation of both calibers & always interesting finding out how to repurpose older calibers...Very well done & hope there's more instructive presentations like this.

Yes I had to inside neck turn some cases .
But that was more to do with variation in bullet diameter with bullet types and powder coatings

The 25 RF is a very small case and forming it from 22 Hornet means there is a lot of brass being moved around.
So neck thickness was always going to be an issue.

    Hi Akaroa 1
My lead 44 grain 25 cal slug projectiles slide in firm ,but the .257 [25 cal ] 60 - 75 grain jacketed are a tad tight
did you use an adjust. reamer to open the case slightly [more towards the primer end as the case tapers slightly internal .
How are you getting along with your casting and coating process
    Cheers
