    Marlin 795

I asked a question about this in a thread in the small game section, but probably better here...

The price on these wee guns looks great. Right on my current budget. I hear good things about accuracy.

    Do they cycle subs?
Can the barrel be shortened with out affecting reliability?
Anyone done some DIY trigger mods?

Mine cycles Remington subs just fine.

Also interested to hear about triggers, mine has lightened up with use, but could be better.

Anybody found an aftermarket stock with a pistol grip/ thumbhole?

I did a DIY trigger job with a 3.5" floppy drive shutter spring. Really easy and much better. Mine cycles subs well.

Marlin 795 a basic little semiauto with an excellent micro-groove barrel. They shoot very well - most ducking just under 0.5" for 5 shot groups at 50m at best, and averaging not much above that.

If you run action clean and fairly dry - just one drop of oil on bolt for lube, they will cycle very well. Use CCI ammos for best accuracy and cycling, though individual rifles can shoot well with other ammos.

Trigger improved considerably by Mcarbo kit from US as above. Barrel chop not a problem.

Good wee rifle - very accurate with right ammos and right shooter.

    Marlin 795

    I'll bite.
I have done the trigger springs with a mcarbo spring kit, !cons the kits expensive I included a new detent and spring as well, while it lightens the trigger pull! it leaves slack in the take up, to get round that MCARBO sell a trigger with a adjustment screw added to it. I got around this by having the trigger drilled and a adjustment screw added! this takes up the slack, great improvement. I would like an after market trigger kit which is all alloy and gets rid of the weak plastic setup.
My barrel is cut to 12'' and still shoots and subs are all I shoot and they work at 100+, but prefer 50-60yards not as steady as I once was. This one shoots better than the Brno auto I had.
They can be temperamental at times!! but have only experienced a few jam ups in the last 1500 rounds and that could have been ammo and on another occasion just ready for a clean.
Here it is! rigged for night shift.

Thanks @Kiwi-Hunter and others. 12" is a nice short barrel. I was thinking 14", but if it cycles and only using subs then 12" a very handy length. Trigger sounds "interesting".

They like being clean with only a little bit of light oil. Next time I clean it, I’m going to try some of the low stick fancy mountain bike chain oil instead

Highly rate the 795, I’ve got myself a stainless steel one and will never sell it. They just do everything you need them to do, well.

Mine has never hiccuped as far as I remember.

A welcome change from my old Stirling 20P shell bender.

MCARBO do a spring for subsonic! But I didn't need it, 14" is also a good length.
12" is good for getting in and out of the truck, but mainly it's weight for me and the handling is great.
I run mine dry and when the chamber is looking like a clean, I'll run it to it does, then give it a flush and dry and away again.
Works for me tried running wet didn't get through the night.
Tentman had said they like dry, well ive never run any dry and had to play with it to find out the hard way !now the Marlin runs dry.

Next time it comes apart, it's getting this stuff on the bolt and inside the receiver. Sewing machine oil on the hammer assembly/trigger assembly as usual.
