I was doing a bit of prep work toay and for .303 I use his trmmer. It does a great job at a reasonable price



The little chamfer / deburring tool is a winner too!




Cant say the same for the robustness of the decapper!! its a great working unit but if you thin it down for small primer pockets its prone to geting bendy



So now I'm on the hunt for a replacement decapper or another stem. Not sur which way to go.

That was a universal one, or do you mean another brand?

Looks like you tried to deprime a Berdan case with it. Are you sure an old military case did not slip into the batch. Altering dies is never a good idea.

I read modern reloading by Richard Lee. Great book and i really like how he aimed to make the highest quality tool for a reasonable price, to give everyone the ability to have affordable, accurate ammo.

He would have been an awesome guy to have a beer with.

could you get someone to drill it and put a new pin in it?

If only there was someone who had a universal decapping pin they didn't need, because it's useless in a 300BLK sizing die...

I bent one in my Lee universal on an old military crimped boxer, I swear it wasn't Berdan, honest! Tried to straighten it and it broke. Had to do without it for a while til Reloaders got some in. In the end I had to buy a complete die, no pins in country, mid Covid yrs. Bought 3 pin when they arrived lol. Now my range kit has a dedicated Universal die and a spare pin all on its own. Bit flash 'cause at the range just as easy to use the whackamole pin and base you can also buy on their own. Except the 30 base has to be turned out a bit on a lathe to accommodate 303B. Or drill a hole in a bit of wood. And use a nail point filed flat. :-)

Yes GPM that was my very first thought. I chastised myself furiously as I peered into the offending case. But no! Just one eye stared back at me. @will.i.em has got me sorted.

Absolutely. The Lee Universal is quality and so robust.

I have decapped literally 100,000s of brass (I decap before stainless cleaning) including crimped military 223, 308, 9mm
with the same Lee decapping die.
Not one single issue ever. No bent pins or other. Ironically I bought a spare pin when I bought the die, but have never needed it.
(after posting this now I will probably bend the pin on the first piece of brass I do next time....)

I also bent a pin in a Lee decapping die recently, it was just a tight boxer primer.
